Is once a week too often to bathe my furry love? I usually do bathe my Sport once a week because that seems to be how long it takes him to get a little greasy looking and have some odors happening. He doesn't seem to itch or have dry skin (I use oatmeal shampoo my vet sold me and his coat is nice and shiny) but I've heard so often that you shouldn't bathe more than once a month that I still worry about it. I use wipes as a touch-up and to clean his paws and his bottom between baths (and I have special eye wipes for his eye secretions) but he still gets a little stinky after a week. Plus, he looks SO cute right after his bath when he's all fluffy and I have doggie cologne that smells like baby powder so he smells heavenly for a day or three. |
Once a week is fine as long as your dog has healthy skin and hair. I bathe every 5-7 days because my boys get really dirty on our walks. |
As long as your baby does not have dry skin and his coat is shiny and healthy once a week is not too much. My vet has me bathe my little girl once a week because she has environmental allergies and the baths help a GREAT deal. I agree there is nothing as cute as a freshly bathed Yorkie; so it is a win - win. |
I bathe all of mine once a week. it seems they start to get smelly around day 5. I love the way they look and feel after their bath. |
A coat that become greasy and has an odor in a week is usually due to a seborra type skin condition...the skin may be perfectly clear, but too much oil is being secreted...the vets have excellent shampoo's for these types of problems. My Yorkies are cut down to medium coat and I like to bath every 10 days...but when we were moving they went a month and none has any odor at all..and that is the way a Yorkie should be...the coat may not look its best but odor in a Yorkie is a dead give away there is an oil problem. IF you can take a paper towel and rub over the coat and you get oil, they ahve a problem that needs special shampoo.... |
Izzy gets a bath every 6-7 days.. |
Once a week for Rosie. Saturday is bath day! |
I try to bathe mine every 2 weeks. Hot Rod had really dry skin and was itchy when we first got him but I got some medication shampoo and conditioner from the vet and he's all cleared up. Mine tend to get a little greasy and stinky at about 2 weeks. |
We bathe once a month. |
I bathe every 7-10 days... Right now at work I am dealing with alot of construction and with that comes alot of DUST and she feels grimy towards the end of the week. |
I think that's fair, I bathe mine once a week too... |
Hi,I am new on here and my name is cheryl.I have a 2 year old yorkie. She has itchy skin but no hot spots and no flakiness.I give her frontline monthly so no fleas. She eats iams small bites.I just recently purchased dreamcoat that I bought online. It got alot of good reviews for a more healthy coat. She has been on this for 3 weeks and not much of a change. She is a little stinky.I bathe her with a medicated shampoo about twice a month but am afraid to bathe her more than that. Can someone please give me some advice of what to do for my baby girl? I would really apreciate it..Thank you! |
Thanks everyone, it's good to know I am not the only one bathing my baby doll weekly! :animal36 He is not really greasy. His fur just gets a little clumped in the face area after a week or so. And, he's half Yorkie half Shih-Tzu so I am not sure if that makes a difference. Since it seems lots of babies get bathed once a week I think I will keep it up unless I notice a problem. I just love when he is all nice and fluffy!!! |
There's no way my benny can wait a month, he would be too smelly. Btw don't you guys think that it's odd that so many ppl say bath as least as possible if there's flaky skin or dandruff. I mean yorkies are suppose to have "hair" like humans so why would you shampoo your hair less, that would be worse. I went to a scalp dr once moons ago at a jose eber salon when I had bad dandruff and itchy skin and he told me to get rid of dandruff you have to shampoo everyday not every other day. It worked for me and I think it's common sense. I thought shampooing less would help with dandruff but it made it worse. |
