| Eye is irritated I noticed the other day that Jamie's left eye was somewhat red with kind of a watery discharge and a little white pus. I used a warm compress and wiped away the gook. I also trimmed her eye hair. It looked a little better today. I don't think it is infected because of the color of the discharge and it is not swollen. It doesn't seem to be bothering her. She is not rubbing it or squinting and the eye is pretty open. Today I got some OTC eye drops from Petco. Of course, if it gets worse or doesn't get much better in a couple of days, I will take her to the vet. does anyone have any experience with this type of eye issue? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | So, she isn't trying to hold her eye shut or anything? It doesn't sound like it. If she is trying to hold her eye shut, then it's good to get to the vet asap - as that can mean a corneal scratch, etcetera. The pus worries me...bc if it was really pus, that likely means some kind of infection. If it was the usual/normal eye goo, then it's usually not as concerning.

| My oldest boy spent the last month battling eye problems. He did not hold his eye shut and he did not have any unusual discharge at first, but I noticed the white of his eye was really bloodshot and red. The only other thing out of the norm was that he wanted to sleep more than usual. When I took a closer look, I thought he had a hair or carpet fuzzy on his eye. After rinsing with sterile saline, I could see that he had a huge corneal ulcer. Eye problems can be very painful for a dog. Most corneal scratches and ulcers cannot be seen without a dye test. If you have any doubts, or if your pup displays any unusual behavior, take her to the vet.

| Thanks for your help. The eye looks much much better today. So I don't think it is serious. I used these drops from Petco called Kinetic Hy-Optic Eye Care The little bottle was almost $20 but it was worth every penny since the eye is almost normal today with no discharge. The eye never seemed to bother her at all. She wasn't keeping it closed or rubbing it at all and her behavior was totally normal. So maybe there was just something in it. |

| Very glad to hear Jamie's eye is okay and that it wasn't anything serious. I'll have to check out those eyedrops next time I'm at Petco. Thank you for the recommendation.
