| Doggie Dandruff? I just took Duke to the Vet for his yearly check-up and vaccinations. She gave him a clean bill of health other than the fact he has a baby tooth that has to be removed in the near future. I was amazed at 5 years of age that he would still have a baby tooth, but I guess that explains with me even brushing his teeth, he still had some bad breath, (worse than the usual doggie breath). His weight had went up to 7 pounds after his neutering but she didn't seem concerned about it. Back to my question though, I got out of her office without asking her what to do about his extremely dry skin. I have bought every kind of shampoo I can find since I have had him the past two years (he was a rescue yorkie-bad bad situation when he came to me) and he has had dry skin from the start. I only bathe him once every two weeks. I know it isn't a food allergy being as he has TONS of hair.. So what else can I do for him? He isn't constantly scratching or anything, just looks bad to me personally when I comb/brush him at night(wet I know not to do it dry) and you can see the flakes in his fur. Thanks for any advice. This is my first yorkie and I am lost! |

| Do you use conditioner after the shampoo? Shampoos strip the natural oils from the skin and hair, conditioner restores and aids the skin and hair after shampooing. For problem dry coats, I put a lot on (warm it up first) and massage it in for a few minutes, then rinse off, towel dry then blow dry. Blow drying helps to remove any flakes and debris that make have been left in the coat after the bath. Conditioners and shampoos that contain coconut oil are great for the skin and coat.

| I don't use conditioner. But I will go buy some today. I thought blow drying would dry the skin out even more, so I have been letting him air dry. I bought some shampoo that is suppose to remove the flakes from the skin/hair that has neem in it? But to no avail it isn't helping much either. Thanks for your help Nasdaq Diva. Hopefully we both will get some results soon. |
