 Need for panic??!!! Hey everyone.... Need opinions asap! I had gotten Advantage 20 (Teal Green Pack) for Lucky last evening from his vet. So, today I gave him his bath and applied the first dosage. He has been like rolling around trying to get it off of himself. He is showing no signs of it hurting him, I even checked his skin to see for redness and there's none. Something is telling me that because this dosage is for a 11kg-20kg dog and Lucky is a hair away from maybe 10lbs....could the amount be too strong for him?The Advantage before this one is for dogs up to 10 kgs....should I have maybe went with that one? I am trusting my vet to know which one is best for my furbaby...I will feel so bad if I've over dosed him.....I put his t shirt on him so he isn't rolling around to get it off....he isn't doing anything now just here lying nest to me, so, it's not bothering him.....just me. lol I'm mostly concerned about the weight vs amount...... Please someone tell me it's ok!!! Thanks...... |
Dogs Roll After Flea Treatments I use Frontline which is for dogs up to 22 lbs. Your vet should be the one to distinguish the dosage amount. Now, this is very common what you describe. They just don't like that oily stuff on their shoulders. Recently I was told that it is recommended NOT to put the flea treatment on a CLEAN dog. The treatment works with the dog's natural oils. So you should put it on the dog at least a day or two after its bath and DO NOT BATHE for a few days after the treatment. I used to the same thing...bathe them and apply the treatment. WRONG WAY TO DO IT and I didn't realize it either. I was told the correct way by my vet and by the dog groomer. So now you can relax. |

Rub a Dub Dub I forgot to tell you that your dog will still want to roll around as before. It is just a natural instinct for them to try to get whatever is on their fur off of them. I don’t let my dog run the house after the flea treatment until she gets a bath. (Not in my living room or on anything good) I do allow her to roam on the hard surface floors. If you feel more comfortable, put your dog in its crate until the treatment dries a bit before letting he/she run. That way it is not freshly applied. Just don’t panic when they try to rub it out. Dogs also love to find scents in the yard and rub in those. I don’t know what Mitsy finds, but sometimes she can really get stinky from something in the grass and there is nothing in sight where she rubbed. Glad to help. I didn’t see your dog’s name. Please forgive me for missing it. |
