| Question on shots. My little guy had been sick for quite a while before they actually found out what was going on with him which was h-phylori in his stomach and small intestines. He was on medicines the whole month of July and now his shots are a little over due but I am kind of scared for him to get them. Which shots are actually required to get? I am sure that he needs the rabies booster but how about the dhp-parvo? He can't go to the groomers until he is updated. His bile acids were a little elevated when they did the test but the dr. said his liver looked fine. Not 100% sold on this myself but I guess I shouldn't be so negative. Also he has been on antibiotics for a month and I have been giving him some yogurt but does anyone have any other suggestions on an probiatic that they use for there dogs? |

| What has been given so far and when? How high were the bile acids? The liver looking fine is good news, but definitely doesn't rule out a problem.

| He was given all of the shots need for a puppy and now he is 15 months old and is due for Rabies 2 year booster and DHP-Parvo annual booster. When we did the bile acid test back in June pre was normal and post was like 34, but when we went to the university they did more blood work and did radiographs and a ultrasound and did not think the liver was the problem. |

| He needs both the rabies and DHP (on different days separated by at least two weeks). After this, the rabies will vary by state law. There are many schedules for DHP (almost all of them agree that a one year booster is needed). It can be given annually (although that is really an outdated and somewhat dangerous protocol). Some give it every three years after the one year booster (AAHA). Some stop altogether after one year (Dr. Dodds leans this way). Some titer test after the one year. And still others come up with their own schedule. Whatever is done, the vet will have to agree because they can refuse to hospitalize if it's not done their way.
