Training Treats I have been using the Bil-Jac Little Jacs as a housebreaking treat. What are your thoughts? Has anyone used this before? Any plus or minuses on this product is appreciated. |
I was just going to ask about training treats! I'm anxiously waiting to hear replies on this as well. I thought I read Cheerios are good. If they are, they sure are cheap enough! :) |
Zuke's are awesome! They come in 3 flavors- peanut butter, chicken, salmon. They look like this: Zukes Mini Naturals Salmon Training Treats Natural Treats The treats are about the size of an eraser, they are healthy, and only about 2 calories per piece. |
I've been using them for a couple weeks and Rosie goes absolutely nuts for them! It's hilarious to watch, they're by far her favorite. Theyre soft and chewy, which is good because she literally inhales them... doesn't even chew them  So I usually cut them in fours because she's so young/small. But they've been working very well for me! She's 9 weeks and is outside/puppy pad trained with few accidents and knows the "sit" and "sit pretty" commands :) |
Bil Jacks are high in fat and pretty low on nutritional value. Training treats should be considered part of their daily diet- so if you wouldn't feed it to them in their bowl, should you really be giving it to them at all? These are the listed ingredients: Ingredients: Chicken Liver, Chicken, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn, Glycerin, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Wheat Flour, Propylene Glycol, Phosphoric Acid, Calcium Propionate and Potassium Sorbate and BHA and Citric Acid (preservatives), Iron Oxide. Some other things you might want to try during training could be: bits of carrot or green beans, bits of shredded chicken, blueberries, low fat cheese bits, cheerios or even their regular kibble. |
I've never tried the Bil Jac treats, but I wouldn't use anything with by-products. We use a lot of different training treats in our house: Zuke's Mini Naturals training treats, small pieces of chopped carrots, and Wellness Pure Rewards jerky cut into small pieces. I've tried Fruitables, and love the idea (they are smallish and crunchy), but Levi for some reason will each crunchy "people food" (like carrots), but not crunchy treats! |
