Freezing kibble, opinions on this? The lady I`m getting my new boy from asked what type of food I use, and I told her Wellness, she then asked if I buy large or small bags, I told her the last one was a 12lb bag. She told me I should leave out a small amount and then freeze the rest of the food because once it is open it will go rancid if not used quickly enough. Any thoughts, is it okay to freeze kibble. |
I am no expert on food storage, however I would be concerned that freezing and kibble would expose it to unwanted moisture. Best to keep it in a cool, dry place. That said, I do buy the smaller bags of kibble in hope of keeping it fresh. It's also easier for me to store. |

Hmmm, Yes that`s true. I have to order online, that`s why I bought the bigger bag. I hope it doesn`t go bad. |
Do you open the big bag each time you feed, or do you keep some in a smaller container? Even with the 5 lb bags that I buy, I fill an airtight container for daily use. I think as long as you aren't opening the large bag every day exposing it to air, and you keep it sealed well, it should be okay. You would likely smell the difference if the kibble becomes rancid. Some people have said that some manufacturers say that their product is best kept in the original packaging, but I have found my kibble can does a good job. |
