Is it your Yorkie that has the allergies? Velvet also so had bad allergies and when they really get bad I have to give her meds with steroids, but she blows up like a balloon and craves food like crazy, so she gains weight and that makes it harder for her to walk and get up and down. So, i only give her those when I absolutely have to.

here is alot of info i wrote on allergies on this link - sounds like you are talking about prednisone as my dog had more side effects on prednisone than temarilp which has prednisolone which is broken down pred. Also when doing steroids best to do every other day so adrenals can work normally on off days so safer

In regards to arthritis you may want to look into dasuquin as it is like cosequin but with msm for pain relief. Many see great results on Cosequin for LP so you may want to ask vet about that and if you needed added pain relief then you can step it up to Dasuquin.

Yes, it is prednisone and she starts out with 3 days dosage and then every other day. The stuff really works... but the weight gain!!

Thanks for the suggestion of dasuquin, I will look into that because she does need something for pain. Also will check on the temarilp.

mine has not really gained weight but i measure her food out or she would eat the whole bag as it increases urine production and hunger so if you are free feeding that could be a problem so maybe measure out food and if still hungry you can add in green beans food processed as that is a filler yet will not put weight on them. You have to be strict with diet as weight can cause more pain if joint issues so you have to keep them real lean if they have joint problems - you have a double edge sword there but if on steroids you really should measure out food or they will put on weight

also a dog on steroids should NEVER HAVE NSAIDS both affect lining of intestines so it is a double whamy to give dog both and why my dog was so jacked up - I knew it and trusted vet and am kicking myself ever since

Well, she is not feed anymore than normal, so I contributed the weight to fluid retention. I am also aware of the problems with weigh gain and her joints.

I have never given her the meds at the same time.
