| Avoderm makes Teddy have allergies!??? Help....! Hi everyone!! So based on suggestions found on here, I went ahead and switched Teddy's food from Iams to Avoderm a couple of weeks ago. We're still in the transition stage (50% Iams, 50% Avo). I noticed recently that he's been scratching his ears and biting his paws a lot more than usual. Then 2 days ago, I started noticing little patches of ...poopy remnants but ...no poopy?? I read online that sometimes doggies eat their feces because the food has fillers ...so he's still hungry. At the same time, he started eating more than usual, before he would eat 1/4 cup and barely finish, now he's eating 1/2 or more....what's wrong with my baby? He's 5.6lbs and 3.5 months old, by the way. |

| There is nothing wrong with your baby if he is eating poop and eating more. Dogs eat their poop mostly because it is behavioral not because they are hungry. He's so young, he could outgrow the behavior. But, he may never completely outgrow it. The best way to deal with this is to keep him on a schedule and when he goes potty, clean it up right away -- take away any opportunity he has to eat his own. My guess is that the Avoderm is lower in fat than IAMs so naturally he would eat more so I don't find that unusual.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | transitioning shouldn't take a few weeks unless you don't want to waste the iams so your taking your time with it. there's nothing wrong with that but since he's showing itching signs i'd finish the transition to the avoderm over the next few days and see how he does just on that for a few weeks. it can take up to 3 months for a food switch to show results when your dealing with allergies (or signs like it).

| It sounds like it's getting worse, not better with avoderm. I'm not sure which flavor of IAM's your trying, but lets say your dog is allergic to chicken and there is more chicken in avoderm then Iams, since it's a better food. That's why it can be why it's causing more of a reaction, compare the ingredients. If the ingredients are comparable, you might need to switch to a different protein type food.. California Natural (makes a few flavors) of limited ingredients. Also, to help combat the poop eating add some digestive enzymes into the food. |

One of my girls is very allergic to chicken! She gets red flamming lips and all around her eyes swell and drain. I have now transitioned her to Primal raw and after some time with nutritional specialist Susan Davis, am rotating proteins. We rotate beef, lamb and venison and then sometimes rabbit (another brand) to help preventing another protein sensitivity. My girl is so much better. Her skin is so much better and she rarely scratches or turns red. Good luck | |
