Question 2004: Which Antibiotic? so, bijou is getting her teeth done with some extractions. the vet told me i could put her on one of two different types of antibiotics: 1) clavamox -- these are drops given 2x a day with food for 2 weeks; and 2) convenia -- this is a shot given once by the vet that last 2 weeks. obviously, it's more convenient b/c you don't have to do anything. it costs $10 more than the clavamox. any suggestions on which one? |
First I'll start by saying I have no knowledge of either drug but if I were given that option I would go w the shot. I have three kids plus precious so it would just be more realistic for me as far as convenience. |
No experience with convenia, but either should be okay. We have used Clavamox for dental issues and it has worked just fine. |
Pixie was given Clavamox and Cali who has MVD was given Clindamycin. I haven't heard of the shot. Are there any side effects? |
i got her the shot ... side effects were mild (the only one i remember is lethargy) and she isn't showing any.... |
Sorry...just seeing this. My vet has offered Convenia for a while now and I have used it on different pups for varying conditions. It is fairly new, so I do not know if I would use it for something really awful ie: serious infections) ...but for dentals and skin conditions..I have used it and been happy with it. It is very convenient! |
thanks for the confirmation!!! it was just dental.... |
