YT Addict | I knew it would happen .. fleas! I knew it would happen just before I go back to the vet on friday (for blood panel) to get advice and a prescription for flea medications. I heard that in Florida fleas tend to be a bit more immune to a few of the ones like Frontline and such. I just don't know what the others are. I was hoping it could wait until friday but now that I seen she has contracted fleas now, I'm not sure what I should do. Is there anything I can do until friday or should I go ahead and call the vet and ask what they recommend or is there a product absolutely known for killing fleas that are live 'now' and prevent them 'later'? I do not remember which products do exactly which. I bathed her in some Dawn and it didn't seem to do much good. She seems to itch more now than she was before. It's mostly been around the back of her ears and her sides. I did make sure she was throughly rinsed and used a conditioner afterwards. So I just need advice. Should I go ahead and call the vet now, or is there something I could do to hold her over (besides vacuuming and washing things I'm already on it!) for a few days? I just don't want to make a hasty decision and choose a medication that doesn't end up working or choose a method that only makes her seem worse (like the dawn did). I had seen a live flea on her myself, just the 1 and could not locate it since and then I gave her the bath with dawn. I think one may have come off during the bath but I have no idea for sure as I couldn't get a good look before it ran down the drain. Thanks!

| Maybe get some coconut oil, and just "dab" on the flea, if you see one...It works, but it sure makes them greasy lol...I bet, if you find a little holistic pet boutique, in your area, they'll have something natural to use...Who knows, you might find something that works w/o having to use frontline and such.... |

| Reading the threads from other Floridians, I'm guessing you will end up with Comfortis. Very new drug an not trustworthy yet (imo), but the other ones don't seem to be working well there...

| I had to use Comfortis last yr, when I could not get rid of the fleas after trying natural products. It worked great, though I was not happy with giving it to my 3. I actually gave a whole one to the one (10 lbs) with the most fleas and then split one for the other two (10 & 5 lbs) and I never saw another flea after that day. So I was happy and so were they not having to stop and scratch every few seconds. |

| I would definitely consult your vet, but I would try Frontline anyway despite the rumor you've heard. I don't live in Florida, but we've had great results with Frontline for quite a few years. I've never used any other product, though. Pet Pharmacy has a few different brands, so I'd browse that and see what you can find, and then talk to your vet about it. |

| spray bottle. water. tea tree oil. the fleas hate the smell, and it helps get rid of the hot spots and prevents dogs from biting themself. i use it on my yorkie and my chihuahua pitbull mix. and i gave some to my boyfriend for his dinosaur sized pitbull whos an outside dog for a rash and flea investation. works great. especially after u bathe them and spray it on while u towl dry to REALLY get it in there. and it makes them shiny =D. no greasy medications. its all natural. |
