they need to ask as all vets do not use small tubes that is a false assumption as my friends dog got ct after a vet put her maltese under for a skin biopsy so it does happen so you need to ask as some vets are not experienced with toy breeds and if they do not have the small tubes it can be a problem. It is a concern and people need to ask about the tube size the vet uses when putting them under - there is no problem in asking as there are even smaller tubes than the cat ones that can be used for the tinies as they use these in ferrets. Never ASSUME ya know what they say about ASSUME.

yes the tubing can cause irritation as it is stated any time you put a dog under. The dentist we use goes over risks of a dog going under and trachea is one thing they discuss before putting them under as they did with dd and demi. My demi and dd came out of anesthesia and did not hack once after going under nor did dex for plasma transfusion but i did ask with demi and dd and they assured me they have all sized tubes but this was a specialist.

People should not be afraid they should be educated though so they are comfortable and aware

because the dog was fine before going under anesthesia then after was honking and also ended up getting a heart condition as well - went to the top cardiologist in vegas and california and due to ct and heart and it being so bad just had to put her down a month ago and was devastated - I asked when did this all start and she said after she was put under for her skin biopsy --- so what do you think? which by the way the maltese had allergies and skin biopsy did nothing to help so probably should not have been done to begin with

That is VERY common. Dogs with an already weakened trachea that have never shown symptoms go under anesthesia and then, after surgery, they have symptoms.

As for the videos....the reason I posted NEW ones instead of those older ones was because someone mentioned their dog honking when it is doing a reverse sneeze. I just think they are better examples is all...I have lived with both and am so familiar. People who have never heard a CT dog are often startled when they do. It is so hard to explain. The sounds are SO different....and there is no honking during a reverse sneeze. I see that mentioned a lot and wanted to show the real difference.

yeah it is sad as the ct causes heart problems :( ct is a very sad thing and hope it never happens to mine. I had dd trachea xrayed when she was under for spay as i had no clue what ct was but read about it and was confused as well by reverse sneeze vs ct so was paranoid as she had reverse sneeze more than my others but she was fine and her trachea was ok - wondering does cosequin help with this to strengthen the trachea ?

and i would never recommend surgery for these dogs as the success rate is not good :(

Actually, xrays do not always show CT. What it is is a weakening of the rings in the trachea...they are cartilage. I had a dog that I knew had CT and took him to A&M for cervical disc surgery. I told them about the CT prior as I had concerns. They xrayed him and it did not look that bad. (the xray that really showed it was in NJ and there was no time for getting it....plus it would not have mattered anyway. It was do the surgery or lose him.) .. Anyway...after the surgery, they were unable to extubate him. He stayed on a respirator for 24 hours...then they did an tracheotomy. Thankfully, he was able to breath without the trach after a few days...but it was pretty touchy. He only had a 50/50 chance of that happening. He lived another 2 years ... his heart finally had enough.

It is an awful condition. I have had three of them and have lost them all. I will say though, that they were older. They can usually be managed for some time...and I don't think you see it as much in younger pups.

I did not know the other was in there...I searched for it because I knew it was around....and have actually used it. It was only today that I really looked at them. It is just that I felt there is a more distinct honk in the one I posted. I will PM her.

yeah very sad my friend lost her ct boy a month ago she managed him for years. It was so sad she lost her girl a month before to of all things thrombosis and she had no injuries at all it came on all of a sudden and she was gone - then a month later she loses her ct yorkie - her girl was protective of him so she thinks she went before him to take care of him. It was very sad but it was almost like he lost her and would sleep in her bed and then he passed not soon after her.

I lost three very close together at the end of the year. The third was my CT boy and it was sudden...although he really had been very ill. The problem with CT is that it can lull you into thinking you have it controlled and then, out of nowhere, just go terribly bad. I would never turn a pupster away that had it, but I can tell you that I really do not want another one. It is heart wrenching and does take its toll on you.

yeah i can just imagine the honking alone just breaks my heart :( just so sad scares me to think of ever dealing with it. It is good you do not turn them away as you know so much about it and can handle dogs with it as that is what they need - although i do not know if i could ever deal with an allergy dog again having gone through it lolllll
