There are dishes designed to make dogs work harder to get their food. You could place some stones large enough that she can't swallow into her bowl so she has to work around them to get her food. You could give her the same amount of food daily in several feedings instead of 2.

| My son had a bulldog that at so fast he used to choke himself and never chewed his food. My brilliant son came up with this - he turned a coffee cup over in his bowl and put about 2/3 of the food under the coffee cup. He had to eat the first third from around the cup and then tip work at tipping the cup to get the rest. It definately slowed him down and he quit choking. i think slowing him down got him to begin to chew. A coffee cup might be a little big for a Yorkie but I'll bet you could find something around the kitchen that would work the same way. I have some really small bowls that would probably be Yorkie sized. |

| They have certain bowls that have grooves and bends in them to promote slower eating, you can also try putting a tennis ball in the bowl, or walnuts, good luck!

| HAHA! I think it's an age thing... I have one boy who was sooo bad I couldn't give him treats or anything w/o breaking them up into tiny pieces. He swallowed everything whole, almost gave me a heart attack twice I can think of... thank god my mom was there one time because he was choking on whatever he swallowed and I was panicking. My mom shoved her fingers under his ribs and pushed up and out it popped. We would have never made it to the vet on time! Talk about patient, in order to slow him down I took to hand feeding him his meals and treats in tiny pieces until he got 'it'. Now hes better but I still break up almost everything into small pieces!

| My Cooper is the same way. She is almost 11 months old. I have tried the bowls, feeding her a few pieces by hand, putting a few pieces down in her bowl at a time. I keep hoping she growns out of it.Hope you get a solution that helps. |

| Roxie does the same thing...except it sometimes leads to her vomiting shortly after. I asked the vet and the pet store about it. They also suggested putting something in the bowl to slow her eating. I found a little tupperware, filled it with water to weigh it down, and put it in the middle of her food dish. So far it seems to be working.
