Can't touch Baby after vaccinations Has anyone had a 12 wk. old get vaccinations and you couldn't even touch them afterwards? This is what my Baby did yesterday I knew she was stressed out but I came home and layed her on her bed.She kept crying loudly in her sleep and I realize she's sore but she litterly didn't eat anything else yesterday afterwards. App. was at 4pm she did drink a little water but she also sleeps with us at night and she cried and yelped in her sleep about 4times last night (loud yelping.)Seems a little better today and has eaten but still not herself.I have to take her back in 3 wks for more and am really dreading it. I told my husband if this were one of my children I would have given them Tylenol but didn"t know what to do for my furbaby. I still can't hardly touch her without her yelping and I'm being so gentle and carrying her at the moment with a pillow on my lap.PLease let me know if this is the norm. I had another yorkie and he did not do this. |
Just finishing up with Chloe's final shots yesterday. None of them caused any concern, but the vet had me give her a 1/4 tsp. of Childrens' Benadryl. Maybe it helped. |
Never had this reaction when Reesie had his shots. He always acted like nothing happened. Maybe you should call your vet and let them know about this. |
My Cooper just had his 12 week shots on Friday. He yelped everytime he was touched on Friday. The only way I could pick him up was under his belly. I could tell he was still uncomfortable on Saturday but after that he seemed fine. Last night I just noticed a lump on his shoulder blade...I don't know if this is from the shot or not but he will be going back to the vet today. |
I don't know if it is normal or not but when Buster was that age, he would yelp after his shots. It was horrible, he would not let anybody touch him. It was like he was in pain. The vet said it was normal and that he would be ok the next day. |
I would give a call to the vet. I don't think it's really out of the normal for this to happen, but to her extent, they may be able to tell you something to try to give her some relief. You know we have humans that are high maintance, furbabies can be the same, looks like you got a peach!!!HAHA Just a suggestion to you, I would get some after hour contact numbers. My vet gave me her pager number, cell and home numbers. I have 2 large dogs, two yorkies, two cats and two birds and we are out of town each week end, so I wanted a vet that can work with me and would be there for us if we had an emergency. I would try to get her home numbers just in case there is any other problems with her. Good Luck Sharon |
YES YES! My baby got his 2nd round of vacs at 12 weeks and he SCREAMED whenever I touched him afterwards.. all he wanted to do was lay on my lap and sleep but I could not touch him. It was horrifying and heart breaking. I told the vet and now my baby gets a pain shot and a benedryl shot everytime he gets any shot (He had an allergic reaction to a shot at 15 months too). Your baby should be fine and touchable within 24 hours. |
I'm not sure the 1st shot, because Sugar was with breeder that time, but I remember the time I brought her for 2nd shot, Sugar cried out loud, and have "accident" in the vet office. After the shot she ate like normal, but she never wanted to sit down, or sleep. When she was tired, she just rested her face on steel bar of her crate, and closed her eyes..."standing sleep", impressive huh? The 2nd day she acted OK, she was all fine on 3rd day :p |
Oh no, I hope she is feeling better tomorrow! I, too, am taking Jasper in for his 12 wk shots this week, he was a lil groggy at his 8 wk shots, but seemed ok otherwise. I really hope she is ok!:( |
Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. My baby RJ--6 months today--cried for both shots that I witnessed. After the first set at maybe 3 months he didn't eat or drink for hours. He curled up in the middle of my bed and stayed there. It was obvious that he felt horrible. My husband came home and I left for a few hours and when I returned RJ was back to normal. His second round that I witnessed was actually two shots. Again, he cried when he received the shots but he was fine afterward. I think it just depends on the shots and the dog. I've also heard of giving a small dose of kid's medicine to ward off sickness. Hope your baby feels better!! |
Zeus did the same thing when he had his 12 week shots. I couldn't pick him up for two days. I had to pick him up in his crate to lift him outside to potty. It was so sad and broke my heart. Since then I give 1/3 of a benadryl pill before any vaccinations. This was my vets suggestion. Being sore is normal swelling is not. |
I only due one vacination at a time bc of the bad expierence with Daisy. She use to get so that she was lethargic and wouldn't move after her shots. Daisy always has a reaction to her vaccinations. Now the vet gives her a shot of benadryl before her shot. It helps!! |

That happened with Mickey's first shot (I say shot because our vet gives them 1 shot at a time in case of reaction so she know exactly which one the puppy reacted to). Now she has me give him 1/8 of a baby aspirin every 12 hrs and he gets a Benadryl shot 20 min before he gets the vaccine shot. We also stick around the vets office (everyone must do this with a puppy at this vet) for 45 min after the vaccine. AND she only does puppy vaccines in the am so they are open later in the day if there is an issue. I LOVE OUR VET! I also have one of those hand held size (rice filled) microwave warm compresses that I put on the injection site if he is sore. |
