Wet food suggestions for a picky eater? The princess has decided she only eats cat food. If I crate her with only her dog food while the cats eat, she simply sulks and waits. I am putting the cat food up where she can't get to it now, and she stares longingly at it. I don't want her not eating - any recommendations for a wet dog food that she will be excited about? Apparently the two main attributes that get her excited are (a) smelly and (b) fishy. *sigh* She does eat her dry RC Yorkie food (when she is not getting into the dry RC Siamese food and kitten food!). |
Mine all eat California Natural wet and even my picky eaters eat it and it is a good food. |
My youngest was sort of picky on a diet of home-cooked wet mixed with kibble, but I recently started separating the two out in the same bowl. I was surprised when she starting clearing her whole bowl. For some reason, she just didn't like it mixed. As for store-bought canned, I've heard good things about Merrick's, notably their Grammy's pot pie recipe. Whole Dog Journal likes it, anyway. |
I think Wellness wet is a good food too. They make a whitefish w/something. Also the Lamb and sweet potato is "smelly". I always tell Bonnie she smells like she has been eating smelly CAT food:D |
A lot of picky/finicky eaters do really well on raw and LOVE eating after switching to it! You can check out some pre-made raw brands at Primal Pet Foods: Wholesome Raw Food for Dogs and Cats Stella & Chewy's - Home Bravo! Raw Diets - home page You might want to check it out! Good luck! I'm lucky that my two are little piggies and will eat absolutely anything. |
Jackson's picky with dry food but he will eat ANY wet food, lol. I feed him Nature's Variety Instinct as well as Fromm Surf n' Turf (both grain-free foods) and he LOVES them. I will mix in wet food every other day for him and I usually buy him the Merrick's Before Grain cans but Petsmart had a sale on Nature's Recipe cans and were only .99 cents so I bought a bunch of those that he's been loving. |
Mine like either Wellness or Natural balance wet foods. They do well on both. I have heard good things about Merrick but I haven't tried it . |
My boys eat Merrick wet food - they prefer "grammy's pot pie" variety. It's a big hit here but I will admit that none of mine are picky eaters. |
Nature's Variety Canned Prairie Nature's Variety has a variety of canned foods for the Instinct and Prairie lines, my furbaby is on the Prairie dry and now prairie canned food. To name a few: Chicken Stew with Brown Rice, Sweet Potatoes, and Spinch; Beef Stew with Barley, Carrots, and Green Beans; Lamb Stew, and Salmon Stew, my furbaby LOVES them all! He primarily gets the dry kibble, the canned is for a change (aka surprise) every now and then. Good luck |
Thanks for the suggestions! I am going food shopping tomorrow so I will give some of those a try and see what she likes. She is out cold on my lap as I type this. It is really fun to have a dog that fits on my lap, and she weighs half of what the cats do so she doesn't make my leg fall asleep! :) |
