Dog Issues: How Do You Feed Your Dog 1. Put the bowl down in the morning and night, and when they are done, take it up 2. Keep food down all the time 3. Keep it is a dispenser and let the food dispense like those water gizmos. I usually leave food out all the time. Is that a bad or good thing~? He wouldn't eat this am, so I did the hot water trick....and he ate all of his two scoops :) I am sure that warmed him and his belly up. It is a constant battle of what he will eat or how to go about it every so often. |
I keep a bowl down all day for my dogs, about a cup full, though they dont usually eat it untill later in the evening. They do get a tablespoon of wet in the a.m and a spoonful of yogurt (they dont always eat it) in later afternoon. |
I"ve never free feed any of my dogs. I feed in the am and in the pm so there is always something in the belly. Try adding some warm chicken broth. Heat it in the micrw- wave for about 20 secs then add to kibble. I bet you won't have much trouble with him eating any more. Be sure to get the one lower in fat and sodium. |

I have always free fed mine. |
I always have kibble and water down all day. Jackson is not the kind of dog who will eat it all in one helping tho so it works for us. He nibbles throughout the entire day. However, every other day I give him kibble mixed with wet food for his dinner and that is gone in about 60 seconds, lol. |

I wanted to caution you about leaving the food on the porch. Pet foods should not be stored where the temps can get too hot or too cold. This could make the food spoil, or become rancid, which could make your guy very sick. Food should be stored indoors at room temp. |

I don't eat meat either and I understand not wanting to be around it, but the temp. varies way too much to leave it on the porch (unless it is like an enclosed area where the temp. is regulared...). Also, just like you get him dog food with meat, you could get him broth and just leave it with his food. |
I put their "plates" down in the a.m. and p.m. (they don't like bowls), and then take them up at each feeding and wash in hot soapy water, as I feed raw... |
I keep mine down all day. I do pick the bowels up at night before bed and I put them out to potty twice before bed too. |
I think it's better to feed "meals" and not have food available all the time. If they don't eat as scheduled you can tell if they are not feeling well. Also eating at the same time means pooping at the same time everyday as well. Also it lets them know that you control the food and not them. But I had so many food "fights" with Uni before. i tried so many different kinds, Royal Canin, Eagle Pack, Science diet (the natural kind), some hollistic stuff, mixing with canned, warming the in the microwave, spoon feeding (yes  ) but when I changed her to wellness she loves it! So maybe your pup doesn't like the brand of food you're feeding? |

I feed meals, morning and evening. I can't leave it down all the time b/c one is a speed eater and one eats slowly. I only give food when Im home to see how much each eats and supervise I guess. |
Coco's really picky so yeah his food and water is out all day for him and he picks on it during the day...he always ends up finishing it so as long as I see him eating I leave it out for him and he goes as he pleases. I guess it depends on the dog...But I have heard that yorkies tend to be picky eaters with picky times...so yeah lol I guess free feeding is the easiest way.. |
