| Low Fat Treats suggestions While I am training Toby that it's a GOOD thing to potty outside, I always give him a treat when he does. Our shichon of course gets a treat too (even though she is completely housebroken) but she doesn't need to gain weight. Any suggestions on some good low fat treats I can give them that I might buy at Petsmart or Petco? For those of you that remember he is a puppy mill rescue I got from a foster mom who had him for a year, I put down some puppy pads and he has used them. So that's a good thing. As long as we aren't gone for a long time, he seems to do OK but he's only been with us two weeks so I think it's way too early to tell. Hopefully he will get the hang of being rewarded for going outside. He is a lot more playful with our shichon now and Speedy is being a good "big sister" to him. They play so good together! He's getting a little better about approaching me as long as I keep telling him he's a good boy. He has let me pick him up and put him beside me in my recliner and laid there. I bought two doggy beds and have one in my office and he loves it. I figured this way he can get used to being with me. He is VERY hesitant in taking a treat from me. I have to stretch my arm out as far as it will go. Sometimes he takes a treat from me but most of the time I have to lay it down and walk away. Any ideas as to why he would do that? So for only being with us for two weeks, he's making progress. Hope I'm not boring everyone with these questions and updates. |

| Cheerios are always good. I THINK those Charlee Bear treats that you get at Petsmart or Petco are low in fat, but I'm not 100% on that.

| I like cherrios too, small pieces of apple and even string cheese. They all work well.

| The vet recommended giving them a piece of green bean, which they love. I think the Charlee Bears are good too. I wish mine would eat Cheerios but they don't like them for some reason.

| I always train with white meat chicken. I use such tiny tiny bits but they think it is a a real jackpot. They seem to learn much much faster when the value of the treat is something delicious like meat. You could also use something like tiny pieces of chopped up baby carrots if you dont want to do chicken. If you want something processed that you can buy at Petco, try the wellness soft treats - break them up much smaller though.

| I use dehydrated apple treats made by Cloud Star Corporation (the farmstand) for potty treats...The little bags seem quite expensive $5.50 for 3.75 oz., but I just break little pieces off for the kids, so it lasts for quite some time...They're all natural, made in the good ol' US of A (lol...I remember old timers saying that, when I was a little girl) lol...And now I'm saying it |

| I bought some Charlee Bear treats today! They are only 3 calories per treat. Thanks for the suggestion! Since I'm still housebreaking Toby, he gets a treat every time he goes potty and so does my other dog and she doesn't need to gain any weight, she needs to lose some! So hopefully these will help. And there are a LOT of treats in that bag so they should last a long time. Thanks for the info.
