Food Transition Question So, some of you know from my other post about Sophie's blood work from her spay coming back abnormal with the levels of BUNs and creatine. The vet suggested switching her to a lower protein food (she was on Orijen) so I'm switching her to Fromm's Salmon a la Veg. I began the transition tonight, and instead of eating all of her food, she picked out the Orijen (literally, she did, she put it on the floor:p) and only ate the Fromm's. She wouldn't even go back to the Orijen and I knew she was still hungry since I only put a little of the Fromm's in there. So I gave her another 1/8 cup of Fromm's and she ate all of it. So here's my question...should I continue to transition and put more Fromm's in there than I do with Orijen or should I just go ahead and do a cold switch since it seems she eats it better than she did the Orijen? |
Mine always picks out the new food too :p, but I always leave the "old" food so that it does make a better transition (plus use up the last of the food). But if your pup seems to be fine just making the sudden switch, you can go to fromm 'cold turkey'. It really just depends on the dog's stomach. |

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll try the cold turkey switch. I may do one more day of mixed so I can see her bowel movements and such but I may go ahead with the switch. I'm just glad she likes the food! |

I have made a 'cold turkey' switch w/o any problems, but it's very individual-specific. |
She may have runny poo for a few days!! When I switched mine from Orijen for Fromms surf and turf they did the same thing, picked out the orijen and put it on the floor and refused to eat it. One switched cold turkey with no problems what so ever, the other two had loose poo for a couple days. But they LOVE Fromm's!!!!! I like the size of it, it is easier for them to eat!! Good luck with the transition!!! |
