| I agree, thank you very much. I do not see Royal Canin in the lists. Any idea if it has Ethoxyquin in or not. It is what I feed with the raw for my puppies and I do have a girl that itches sometimes. |

Every food that is on Wal Mart shelves, Pedigree, Maxium, Iams all the name brands. The vet said to try Science Diet prescription and that was the worse of all. The poor girl reaked of the most horrible smell and her bowels were gushing. (Yes I do know about changing food slowly)Than I went to Pet Co and began on those such as Nature. But than I came across Canidae and she seems to be doing a bit better but now that I see this also contains that poison I will be changing again. As I said she had cancer once and I don't want to feed her this and encourage a relapse. | |

Canidae is a MUCH better food than any of those others you listed. If she likes it and is doing well on it, I'd stick with it. Good luck!

What is ethoxyquin, exactly? Ethoxyquin was developed 35 years ago as a rubber stabilizer, has been used as a chemical preservative and is regulated by the FDA as a pesticide. Yes folks, I said pesticide. Scary huh? The FDA recognizes that this chemical has toxic side effects and as such has restricted its use in human foods, allowing for only trace amounts (.5 to 5ppm), yet they continue to allow its use in pet foods. The allowed amount for pet foods is extremely high (150ppm). Ethoxyquin has been linked to liver and kidney problems, cancer, reproductive issues, behavior problems, hemolytic anemia, stillborn pups, birth defects such as cleft palates, and various skin and coat conditions. The developer of ethoxyquin, Monsanto, even made sure that warning labels on containers of this chemical warn workers to wear eye and respiratory protection, and to only handle it with gloves. The container itself features a prominent skull and crossbones sign with the word POISON on it and it is listed as a hazardous chemical by OSHA. Ethoxyquin has also been linked to seizures. A mere 10 drops of this substance is enough to cause convulsions, coma and death.

| Wow!! And to think now, Snick has had several of those foods in his small life span of 1.5yrs. I'm sad!! He's had Nutro (for the 1st few months we had him!), Artemis, & Natural Balance (so many YT'ers feed this!!) I gave him potential poison.....what we learn day to day on this site is so valuable!!!! ![]() Snick & Viv

| I feel helpless and up a s-creek! Maddie will ONLY eat TOTW. I have tried many other foods. She stoped eating, lost weight, and starting acting puney. I was trying to wait her out thinking she would not starve to death, but she was literally eating 2-3 pieces a day!! Now she is eating TOTW again and back to her lively, healthy self. |

| Honestly I would never feel comfortable feeding my Snick a food even if it doesn't have fishmeal in it, from a company that would use ethoxyquin. Same way I don't feel comfy feeding him raw from a company that outsources their Rabbit for their kibble from China. Ugh!! This stinks!!! When I was transitioning Snick off of Evo to another kibble (turned out to be Acana) I saw Earthborne at my feed store and bought a sample grainfree bag. Well Snick LOVED it and now I just use it as treats (it has some fillers in it I don't like and decided not to use it for his daily kibble.) Now I am wondering if Earthborne uses ethoxyquin. He gets about 4-5 kibbles a day of it, which is not much. Geez! Snick & Viv ps...MaddiesMommie--I feel for you girl!!!!

But wait- which raw food company does the above? ^^ I know you originally fed Nature's Variety and switched to Primal.. Don't tell me I have to switch again, lol.. It is like we are never in the clear with these dog food companies!
