Porphyromonas Vaccine I'm not an advocator of many vaccines, and have never heard of this porphyromonas, before yestereday...It's supposed to be a vaccine to fight canine periodontitis...I'm not, at all, thinking about getting this for Apple, just wondered if anyone else had heard about it, or used it? I, totally, think we are over vaccinating humans and animals...Anyway, at my Vet visit, yesterday, he suggested this...This is a new vet, as my previous vet retired, and he purchased the practice from my dear and trusted vet of many many years, so I'm watching his every move right now...Thanks for any input... |
Yes, I've heard of it. No, I wouldn't not use it in over 99% of cases. It is said that they will need dentals anyway and it kills bacteria that can be normal in the mouth. |

Talk to Bravo916. Her Dizel had a horrible reaction to it. I spoke to my vet about it and he informed me that until there was more statistics (long term study) he was not offering it..... |
Thank you all for your responses...Yesterday, I had Apple in to discuss teeth/spay, etc., and was, actually, going to have the bloodwork done...Then this Vet came out w/the brochure about this dental shot, and a red flag went up, and I didn't have the bloodwork done, and I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't want this man to do Apple's spay/teeth...We're just not on the same page... |
That's very interesting. I've never heard of it but it sure would be nice if it were that easy. |

I wouldn't let a vet do abdominal surgery on my dog either if we weren't on the same page. And I want to amend my other post because I see I used a double negative and really want to fix it!!! |
I learned about this 2 years ago. It is very painful for the dogs and you still have to brush their teeth and you have to do the shot yearly. I would not recommend it. |
