help please :(. louis wont eat ive posted before but no luck :( . louis is 6 months and weights 6.6 lbs. when i first got him(a month ago) he was fed science diet and i saw he didnt wanna eat anymore. hed only eat a bit and leave it, i also noticed that he would be a bit itchy. i checked nd no fleas or ticks.i decided to switch him to innova but couldnt find a place where they sold it..so i switched him to nature's recipe puppy. same problem with this fooddd. he'd only eat a bit and sometimes he wouldnt eat any. so today i did my research and found a place where they sell innova and got it for him. ive given him nature's recipe with couples of innova puppy, he only ate a little :((((. its sort of frustrating because i give him treats but havent in a while because i thought the treats where getting him full but apparently not.. its not that. ive seen people say their puppies love innova but idk louis isnt eating :/. did i mention NR's kibble are sort of big o.O. i only feed louis a 1 1/2 cup a day. half in the morning (8 am)half at 4:30/5. UGHHHHH i dont want to give him boiled chicken because i know he'll get used to it :/ && did i mentioned he's still energetic and playful?...maybe im feeding him too much??? i thought it wasnt much but anyone have any ideas/help???? |
1 1/2 Cups seems like a lot of food to expect a yorkie to eat everyday. My little guy is 4.5lbs and 12 weeks, (he's a big puppy!:)) and I give him as much kibble as he wants and he still only eats about 1/2 cup a day. If he is eating alot less than that I would be concerned as well. Many dogs, especially yorkies it seems!, are extremely picky eaters. Most owners have to switch foods many times to find something their dog will eat, or have to mix things in there to entice them to eat. If you are concerned that he is not eating at all, then I recommend mixing in something, like cottage cheese, veggies, boiled chicken, just to get something in his tummy so he won't get sick. Good luck hope something works. |
i'll try feeding him less. maybe 3/4 a day? since yours is smaller than louis? lol im thinking he does eat that amount if i think about it...because sometimes he eats only in the a.m and nothing in the afternoon O.O. i was guiding myself from the NR's bag measurings.... ill try this. if he still doesnt finish i'll try the boiled chicken. thankss a lot :) |
Morgan is 4.5-5lbs and gets 1/2 cup(which is what a 6lb adult should get according to the bag) of adult Innova a day. i think you may be feeding your pup too much. I noticed when i switched to Innova that the recommended amount was a little less then the recommended amount for Solid Gold and Wellness, which is what he was eating before. So i'd check your bag of innova puppy and see what it says. |
My Boy is 9 months old and 4.5lb and I'd be lucky if he eats 1/2 cup a day, some days he'll eat it all in two sittings but usually he just picks and never gets through the second feed in the evening, so don't worry. |
i re-read the NR's guidelines and it says 3/4 to 2 cups a day??? &&i just read innova puppys guideline and it says 3/4! o.O. im sticking to 3/4's a day. thanks guys/. <33 |
try to mixed ur dry food with a little bit of canned food |
I had a very picky eater...I tried just about EVERY food out there with no luck...I did boil chicken breast for her. She was just a pup and I didn't want her to get hypoglycemic on me. I didn't know what to do. I finally found a food that she would eat. Nutro Ultra...then...it gets recalled!!! I got Lillie when Sadie was 2yrs old...THIS is what finally got her to eat!! I have since changed them both to Merricks, Grammies pot pie, I don't know how much they actually eat because I free feed them. I also use about 1/4 of a small can of wellness soft...just as a topper and just in the morning...These little ones can be finicky.. Good Luck! I know it can be frustrating trying to find them what they like |
Thanks for the advice! Louis is already eating innova.I figured out I was feeding him too much :/. He's doing great now :). |
