Donating YT 500 Club Member | Many yorkie owners use Frontline successfully. I used it once & had to race Roxy to the vet. Within a few minutes of applying it, she was walking across the floor and just plopped on the floor on her side & just laid there very still. A few minutes later she walked to the kitchen & just plopped down on her side again. She laid so still it was scary. Vet said she had a reaction to the alcohol in Frontline, took her in back & gave her a good bath. She recovered fine within a short time. So she is taking Comfortis now... a pill. I'm sure she is an exception to the yorkies on Frontline. Should something like that happen, bath real well with shampoo to remove all traces of the wormer. It may save you a trip to the vet. Guess no booze parties for my girl! : )

| Interceptor does all of them except tape, I believe. Heartgard Plus doesn't do whip or tape I don't think. How about just regular Heartgard and then something like Panacur? There is really no reason to deworm unless the dog has a positive fecal and then a dewormer is selected based on which worm needs to be eliminated...

OP, I used Ivermectin for years on my large dogs and cattle (horses too) but I don't use it on my yorkie. I have also used it on wildlife such as squirrels, but you have to be extremely careful using such small amounts. On my yorkie I use Panacur, Strongid T, and another I am drawing a blank on the name. And I rotate them. He is on a heartworm medication that also is a wormer so I feel he should be well covered for worms.

I am skeptical of not deworming pups even with a negative fecal but with adults who stay inside most of the time, it is really the owner's choice how much risk they want to take. Wormicides do carry some risks also and when using them all the time with heartworm meds, flea meds and vaccines, it may be overkill.

| I used to use Nemex 2 until two of my dogs got roundworms. it is safe to say they all had them. Now I use Drontal. It is a pill that kills ALL worms. You give two rounds of it, three weeks apart. i deworm mine on a regular basis. I also start deworming puppies at anywhere from 4-6 weeks. |

| My puppy's vet prescribed Drontal for deworming. Half a tablet the day after the 2nd set of puppy vaccination (that's when we took our dog in) and then the other half 2 weeks later. This was for a 3.2 lb dog--not sure if weight matters. |
