Does anyone's pup have an Umbilical Hernia too?? Hi Everyone, My little girl is going for her Spay on friday and she will also be getting her Hernia fixed too. I know that Umbilical Hernia's are actually common in puppies but i have heard scarry stories about the hernia's opening back up just because the skin is to thin to hold the opening closed?! I was just wondering if anyone is or has been in the same position as me. Ruby is also getting her Spay and Hernia done by Lazer Surgery. Does anyone know if there is that big of a difference between healing with lazer or regular sergery? -Athina |
Hernias occur in all mammals and are a common procedure. As for the difference between "Lazer" and regular surgery, I don't know. But it sounds like a technical difference based on the type of instrumentation to be used. Namely, a laser versus a "regular" surgery involving a scapel. |

When I had my chocolate lab fixed. They also repaired her umblicial hernia. This has been 2 years now and she has had no problems what so ever. A smaller breed may be different. But I would think that she would be fine. Not sure about difference between laser surger or regular though. Sorry I'm not much help. I'm sure she will be fine. |
I have heard that the laser surgery requires less healing time and that it's better. My sister had one of her cats fixed by cutting and one done by laser and she said the laser was much better and the cat was back to normal the very next day. Makes sense to me! :) It could be different with dogs though. Just thought I'd share. |
I had a tiny Shih- Tzu in the recsue who had a umbilical hernia fixed the regular way and was up and running the next day. She never had any problems |
My westie had an umbilical hernia but it was fixed before I got her. Princess Chai had an inquinal hernia but it resolved on it's own, no surgery necessary thank goodness. :) |
Sammi had an iniguial hernia repaired at a few weeks old...I had to have it re-repaired at spaying because Miss rough stuff popped it...She snatched a cookie out of my hand and tried swallowing it whole and had gotten it lodged in her throat...She pushed so hard for it to come up that her hernia popped :( My vet repaired it and so far so good :) XoXoXo Fran |
Alright thanks everyone. She goes in for her sergury in 2 days (friday), so i'll let you know how she does. |
