That time of the month??? haha Reyna is my first little puppy ever! :D So I really don't know a whole lot about dogs...she is now 7 months old and should be starting her period (do we call it that for dogs too? hehe) soon. She is 2.8 lbs. and I was wondering how much these little ones bleed? How long does it last? Are there really little pad/diaper things?...do they work? Any advise would be great...just trying to be prepared. Thank you!! :aimeeyork |
i was kind of asking same question in the chat section but wondering if they get tired more like us! I heard they come into heat around 8 months, thats what my baby is now! |
Gucci had her first heat when she was 8 months. She didn't bleed that much, it was more a spotting. Her genitalia got very swollen. She was cranky and she slept a lot. I think it lasted like 3 weeks. I have seeing at Petco little pads they can use, but I never try it. Gucci should have her second heat soon, according of what I read is around every 6 months. I just hope I get to spay her before she goes into heat. |
Princess Chai is 9 months and she just had her first heat. I never noticed any blood as she kept herself very clean. I only knew because she was swollen and even the neutered males were interested in her! :) |
Roxy's Mom Funny how different all of our little girls are! My Roxy just finished her first heat. She was 8 months old when it started. It lasted about three weeks and boy was she messy!!!! She sleeps with my husband and I and it got all over our bed sheets-YUCK!!! I bought the little velcro pant and put a woman's panty liner (cut to fit) in it. She also slept a lot and her private was very swollen. It just went back to normal. |
OH NO! so much for those sheets... how much does Roxy weigh?? |
When in season it lasts 3 weeks. :( My little girls wear their denim panties with a panty liner. Lulu is bigger so I use 1/2 of an always pad. You can get them at Petco. Get 2 or 3 Sometimes my husband or son forgets to take off their panties an, my girls pee in their pants. :yorkiesar |
Roxy weighs between 7 and 8 lbs. I haven't had her weighed since her last shots. I am dying to know what her exact weight is. I am also going to breed her just 1 time because she is a healthy weight. I am not going to sell her babies. I am going to keep one, my Mom wants one, my neighbors who have no kids want one, and my friend who has a 3 lb. yorkie wants one. So, depending on how many she has, I already have excellent homes for them. That is much more important to me than selling my grandkids!!! HA-HA!! I will have to do a lot of research on the heat cycle, breeding and so on. I am sure this site will be a great help. |
If your baby's heat hasn't started @ 7 mos, don't worry about it yet. If it doesn't start after about a year old, talk to your vet. Sometimes putting her on a heating pad on the LOWEST heat can help w/ her cramps. I did that with my other Yorkie, Ladybug, & that seemed to help her. Just a note, once you spay a doggie, she will gain some weight. Jewel gained about a pound or so after being spayed. She only went thru 2 heats (remember, they can't be spayed DURING a heat) & didn't bleed much. Her genitalia DID get swollen & it lasted about 3 wks too. JM |
