| Parvo Scare!!! Need Advice My sister in law called today and told me that her new puppy has parvo and is at the vet on IV's. She has had her for about 4 months but this is her first visit to the vet. She did not get her from a breeder or anything, she got her for free from a lady in the Walmart parking lot. We have no idea how long she has had parvo and now I'm worried about my dogs. I have had my Cookie up there around her twice that I can think of. Cookie and my other 2 dogs are vaccinated but I don't know if I should worry or not. I am going to call the vet in the morning but I was hoping you guys could help me tonight.

| I am unfortunately knowledgeable when it comes to that darn parvo! As long as she had had her vaccinations, she should be ok! Did your SIL not get her pups vaccinations? Seems odd that she has had the pup for 4 months and now she is getting parvo because the dog should have been vaccinated by now! Really, you shouldn't worry about your lil one getting it as long as she is current on her shots! Hope that helps and best of luck, we just went through the parvo ordeal and it is NOT fun!!!

| No she never took her to get vaccinated. I have told her she needed to and she kept saying she was going to but it just wasn't at the top of her list. Thanks for your help.

| After this, if her pup makes it through, I would be very pushy to the fact that her pup needs it shots! If she picked up this pup from WalMart, there really is no telling what else it may have along with the parvo! She needs the vac. for the pups safety and everyone elses!

| If your dogs are older and fully vaccinated, they should be okay. Puppies are the most susceptible. Here's a good article about parvo for you: Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs |

| I know, to be honest I think the only reason she got her is because we got Cookie and she thought she was so cute. It was right after we got her that she started talking about getting a small puppy. Next thing you know she comes home with this one. It would be fine if she would do what she was suppose to. I have been talking to her and sending her information about the disease so that hopefully she will take it seriously.
