| Freaking OUT!!! Tick head left in her little head! I just noticed Maddie was acting funny: squirmy, rubbing her head around on the couch. So as I imspected her I found a monster tick dug into her head with just a butt sticking out! I slowly pulled with tweezers and it broke in half! I know I know! I should have put mineral oil or vaseline to have it back out. I just paniced and forgot all I knew! IT was so big on her little head.... Now I don;t know what to do. Is there something I can put on it to get it out? Thank you for all your help!!! |

| I wonder if rubbing alcohol would help?

| What if you put oil on it now, maybe it wil loosen. Is there enough of it left to get the tweezers on again? Some people say use liquid soap???

| UPDATE!!!! Well nothing I did seemed to work. Then, I was getting afraid of irritating it too much. Sooo, I sterilized a needle and began to slightly scrape over the huge hole as one last attempt. It worked. I heard a loud pop and then the head seemed to dislodge. I was surprised to see how much of the body was still attatched I have removed the tick completely and poured the peroxide to it. I am going to keep alchohol on it for the next few days too. THanks so much for the posts!! |

| EW, I really really hate ticks. I always make whoever else is around take it out! LOL. Jackson's had two so far this summer and they're such nasty little things! The other day, I was at my dad's house so I made him take it out! hehe

Out of curiosity, is your girl on a Tick preventive medication? Which one? Last edited by London01; 05-18-2009 at 08:47 AM. Reason: misread original post | |

| I would keep an antibiotic on it like neosporene. If you ever have the head break off again, keep an antibiotic on it and the body will eventually reject it. That came from my skin kids doctor last year when I broke the body off and couldnt get to the head. |

Please do not use alcohol on wounds. It is way too painful, and totally unneccessary. If your pup appears uncomfortable, you can try a warm water compress on the area. A small washcloth in warm water should do the trick, but test it first on the inside of your forearm ... it should not be too hot. Be mad at the tick, not at the hole in the pup's head. Any disease will have already been transmitted through the bloodstream. You need to watch for symptoms ie: rashes, fever, etc. Google 'tick photos' and try to identify the type of tick and then Google that for the diseases that type carries. Symptoms should be listed there too.
