| Is that ok to neuter without puppy teeth removed? My little boy is 4 months right now and 4 1/2 lbs. I want to neuter him right now to prevent marking, leg lifting.... But I also don't want anesthesia him again for the baby teeth removing. Is that almost all yorkie need to remove baby teeth by vet under anesthesia? Thanks |

| I would personally just have them removed while he's under. While some of his baby teeth may come out on their own eventually, it's highly likely that he's gonna have one or two retained. You definitely need to get them pulled while he's under anesthesia so you might as well do it during the neuter and do it all at once.

| thanks for quick reply , Britster That mean I can't neuter him right now at 4 months old? Then I have to wait for his adult teeth around 6 months? |

| It may be better! Jackson just got neutered at a little over 6 months of age just last week and he had to have 4 teeth removed. He began losing quite a few of his baby teeth on his own at about the age your pup is now but those 4 that were left just didn't seem like they were loosening up at all! He had "double" teeth where he had a baby tooth and an adult tooth right next to each other, and his breath was starting to STINK lol because food was getting stuck in there!!

| Hi! Were in Brooklyn too! Francie has 2 baby teeth pulled when she was spayed at 9 months. Most vets do it while they are under to avoid any unecessary anesthesia. My vet was neglegent to the breed and didn't reccomend a dental until age 6. My advice would be to have one done sooner as to avoid extractions. But sometimes there is nothing you can do, its genetic. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | We waited till 7 months for Joey because of this; you really don't have to worry too much about leg lifting yet. Is he around lots of other male dogs? That sometimes causes marking to start extra early. I agree, you need to have the extra teeth removed, and it has to be done under anesthesia, I think as long as you do it before 9 months, you'll be safe.

| I agree with the general consensus. I would wait until he is a least 6 months old before you have him neutered and then at that time have any remaining baby teeth pulled. Usually by 6 months old the only baby teeth that will be retained are the K9's which will need to be removed for the overall health of the mouth. Leg lifting is strange--part of it is a learned behavior but another factor is the amount of testosterone in the system. My older boy started leg lifting (not marking) at 3 mos old--now he is 2yrs old and is intact but still squats to pee on his wee wee pad with one leg lifted lol. Luckily he has never marked in the house, however, on walks he will mark if given the chance. I believe he started marking outside around 8-9mos old. My 8 month old intact male puppy still squats--occasionally walking while peeing which is a bit annoying. He has no idea what marking is and refuses to pee on walks lol. The point of my novel is that puppies might lift their legs but that doesn't mean they are marking. Marking starts when they are a bit more mature so you have plenty of time. |

| Hello Everyone- my puppy is 7 months today and he is around 2.5 lbs. The vet said to wait a couple months to see if he is bigger to get neutered. Any suggestions on the right age to neuter if they are small in size? Thanks, YOSHIMAX |

| Really, why? It seems the norm to do so, that way they don't have to go under anesthesia twice.
