| My new Yorkie won't eat his puppy food!!! I just adopted my new Yorkie on friday. He is so cute OMG I am in love. He is just like having another baby. He doesn't sleep all night, I have to make sure he is not getting into anything, He doesn't want to eat what he is supposed to. I have tried several different foods already and he won't eat them. I have only been able to get him to eat beef baby food. He is drinking just fine but he just won't eat. Wondering what everyone in the Yorkie community could suggest. Please help, all of your experience would be appreciated. |

| Hi, Welcome, and congratulations!!!!! It is not a good idea to keep changing food it is not good for them and you can wind up with a mess. How old is he, where did you get him, and did he come with some food that he was being fed? |

| If he came from a breeder find out what they were feeding. Good luck.

| i dont really have any advice for you but i agree with not switching his food around, it could give him an upset tummy. Stick with what the breeder had him on and you can slowly switch it to whatever you want. I just got my puppy on Monday and I am going to switch his food but I'm giving him a couple weeks with the old food to get settled in here first before doing the switch. good luck!! ps i totally am with you on the no sleep all night part!! first night was good, last night i dont think he even slept haha |

| Congratulation on your new addition! Put a little hot water and chicken/beef broth in the kibble and let it get soft, that should help. Don't keep on changing food. |

| Yea no kidding. I haven't slept all night since I got him. He is just like a baby, he cries and cries when we put him in his crate to sleep. And he gets up at like four thirty every morning. He is also kind of flaky about going potty in the right spot all the time. I am unsure about what way to train him to potty. I work all day and thought that puppy pads would work but my husband doesn't like having a puppy pad laying around the house all the time. I was interested in litter training but I don't know. |

| how was your night? ours was a little better crying/crate wise. i think the longest he cried was maybe 25 minutes. sounds weird but if i like, rumple the blankets and toss and turn it settles him down... maybe b/c he can hear me and knows i'm there? anyway, definately an improvement from the night before. he did get up to go outside THREE times though, which is no fun, but he actually goes soo i cant complain. not sure about the pee pads or litter training. my friend litter trained her yorkie/chihuahua and she loves it. she has a female though so doesnt have to worry about leg lifting... i'm not sure i remember what you have (morning brain). anyway, she had a couple days off work and said she just kinda sat by the litter and kept putting puppy in it until she got the hang of it. Toby is being trained to go outside and so far is a champ... how often do you take your puppy out? |

| Bristol will eat cat food, if our cat doesn't eat all of her food Bristol will snatch it righty up. I wonder if this is ok if he eats cat food. I know it's not formulated for dogs but can it hurt him any. He cried again alot. I had to get up in the middle of the night and move him to the bathroom so my husband and I could get some sleep, we get up early for work anyway so we need to get some sleep. I hope it gets better soon. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It took ten days and much stress and worry but our puppy has begun to eat kibble! I had the hardest time finding anything at first that our puppy would eat. (The sleeping and the use of the pee pads was a cinch but somehow coming to our house threw our puppy into an almost starvation mode.) I have not figured out if it was homesickness or being too interested in everything around her but eating was the fartherest thing from her mind. In fact, I had to use NutriCal several times in the first few days. Finally I got her to eat some of a soft scrambled egg I fixed in the microwave. She also ate some chicken then rice then pumpkin all mixed together but it took the full 10 days before she would deign to eat any type of kibble. I kept it out anyway and finally she ate some. I was afraid of low blood sugar because of things I'd read on here so keep an eye on her gums, etc. They should be a nice pink color. |

| We also had a hard time getting Milo to eat when he first came to us. We gave him Nutrical a few times a day and hand fed him his kibble piece by piece. We also realized that he would not eat kibble from a bowl and spread some out on a small, flat plate. We started with a few pieces at a time and added more as he ate it. It took some time and patience but, after two months with us, Milo is finally eating more regularly. We also entice him with a teaspoonful (or two) of wet food alongside his kibble at breakfast and dinner. Be patient, it really does get better! |

| A new puppy is sometimes hard to feed Call the breeder and get whatever he was being fed there You don't want to change what he's been eating for two reasons Changing a puppy's food might upset their stomach and a new food that tastes different will further confuse an already confused new puppy Just leave the bowl there for him and have a tube of Nutri-Cal of a supplement there ready for him and give him that probably twice a day
