My puppy had reaction to shots This morning I took Bo for his shots. He is 4mths. old and weighs 3.4 lbs. I noticed him this afternoon scratching his ears and shaking his head alot. His ears where drooped down and I noticed his face looked swelled. I called the vet she said bring him in. He had a reaction to his shots. She gave him a shot of steriods and benedryl. She said when he comes back in 3 wks. for his next shots she wants him to stay the day there. I really like our vet. They are so caring and didn't charge me when I took him back down there. Bo is doing good right now and chewing on his bone, but his ears aren't standing back up yet. Poor little guy. What a day. |
Aww, the poor little guy! When I took my great dane in for shots, there was another dog who had been brought back because he had a reaction to the shots and his entire face was swollen up.. he didn't even look like a dog! :O I hope he recovers quick. |
I would ask if they can break up the shots and give on different days. I have one pup (my biggest) that had this type of reaction (but also ended up with tummy issues also) and my vet made a big note to only give one vaccination at a time. It was time for his yearly vaccinations recently and we went in one Saturaday for one vaccination and then the vet had me wait two weeks and then come back for the other....and this time no reaction. (We also made sure we were as close to the first patient of they day each time....in cause of reactions.....as the first time he reacted we ended up at the emergency clinic.) Sorry you puppy has had such a rough day! |
I just took Lola to the vets yesterday, she is 12 weeks old and my vet doesn't give a whole shot. He says she is too small for it. He also does the samething with the rabies shots. |
