| Unsuccessful Neuter We took Pilot in for the neuter and microchip today, but the vet was unable to neuter him. The vet said that usually he's able to do it in 5 minutes, but spent 30 min trying with Pilot. He also stated that this is the first time he's not been able to neuter a dog. Pilot is 7 months and 2lbs and 10 oz (though I swear he looks well over 3lbs!). He suggested we wait another 6 months until he gets bigger (if he does!) Has anyone ever run into this? I'm concerned that he maybe marking now, but the problem is he does it behind my back so I cant tell if it is actually marking (hes pees a little spot here and there, especially on rugs). Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated! O, he is doing well

| Pilot is adorable. I have never heard that a vet could not neuter a dog. I have heard that is could be dangerous to neuter a dog so small but never that is could not be done. I am glad he ok. |

| Never heard of such a thing, especially at over 2 1/2 pounds. Something doesn't seem right but maybe Kalina82 or MyFairLacy would know.

| What I can suggest is have a peepad for him at home and put a bottle filled with water in the middle. Hopefully if he finds the need to mark in the house, you can train him to do it there. My Yorkie is not neutered as of yet and he doesn't mark at home and I do have a peepad with a bottle for him and he pees there but I don't think he marks it...just thought that this may help you if yours decided to mark.

| Why couldn't your vet neuter Pilot? Was there a problem with the anesthesia? Does he have undescended testicles and the vet was unable to find them? |

| The vet said they were so small, he made the incision but could not get them to "pop" out or something, and he didn't want to accidentally cut something else. There was no problem with the anesthesia! Should I go to another vet? I don't want him to go through this again

| I understand what the vet is saying but that is very unusal. Hmm, it would be nice if we had a vet on YT for a second opinion.

Perhaps I need to clean my carpet better that so could be the issue too (that he smells it). He never does it in front of me so I cant really punish him for it. All his bloodwork is normal, so I don't think it's a medical complication.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Wow, I have never in my life heard of such a thing What was the reasoning behind him NOT being able to neuter him? Did he say? I have just never heard of this I would possibly look into finding a new vet If he said he "can't" neuter him, I would personally be a little nervous about taking him back in 6 months. I have just never heard of a vet saying that they can't neuter a dog.

| I do not know if he is bilateral, but I dont think his testes have "descended". He doesn't really have a scrotum or I can't tell

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Well actually, that's good. At least he didn't want to take any chances and mess anything up if he felt uncomfortable about doing it. He was honest...alot of vets may have just went in anyway and tried to remove them regardless. So I give him a thumbs up there
