Are Yorkies prone to health issues? Yes, I've read up on everything (hypoglycemia, etc.), so I'm not posting blindly here. But it just seems like a lot of the members' Yorkies have had health issues or surgeries. Is it truly THAT common??? This has me worried! |
Hypoglycemia occurs in all the small breeds . |
Well i think it seems common since this IS a forum all about yorkies :p so we are going to hear about it more- but Yorkies, like any breeds, have the problems that they are prone to. Many on here have Luxating Patella (slipped knee cap), a few have pancreatitis (my Layla included) some have liver issues- but if your pup is going to have health issues in the future (i hope not!) there is not better place to be than here on Yorkie Talk :D |
Yorkies like all dog breeds are prone to certain things. However if you do your research you can find breaders that breed to better the breed with health screeing the mothers and fathers. Many of the breeders on this site make sure that they have the healthiest puppies with the least amount of genetic desease. I am sure if you go to the breeders section her and speak with them they can expalin what it is the puppies parents should be tested for, and who knows you might just find a pup |
I think it just seems that way because people come here for help when they have a problem. All breeds are prone to certain health conditions, not just Yorkies. :) |
