"Blue Puppy" My neighbor has what is called a "blue puppy". He has only hair on his legs and head with short peach fuzz on his back and tail. His color is a much darker My litters have never produced one. He is two years old and in good health or so it seems. Has anyone else ever seen one? Worries me that she said she saw a full grown female that looked like him at the breeders when she picked him up. I do know that this is a gene problem and he should not ever be bred. |
I havent seen one but would love to see a picture. There was a thread on here not too long ago where someone was looking to purchase one of these puppies. |
Someone needs to report that breeder to the AKC pronto. She/he should also be reported to any and all Yorkshire Breeder Clubs. |
From what I have learned from yorkie breeder friends this is a type of yorkie that should not be bred. Unfortunately with blue born puppies the situation is usuall fatal. Very few live. They get very leatherly skin and they can be in extremem pain and must be put down at times. This is one of the lucky ones who is healthy. I wouldn't suggest anyone tring to find one. He is cute, but looks kind of sickly missing his hair. If they want this look, a hairless chinese crested is a great option. |
"blue pupp I plan on going to their house tonight to find out exactly who this breeder is. She has to be stopped breeding and selling them. We have five and they are all of breed standards and adorable little babies(ages 4-12). We see some scary looking yorkies when we take ours on vacation. People are always asking us how ours are so tiny. I'm blessed with having great friends who raise them. You really need a breeder you can trust. I get so tired of people buying from pet shops and then called me for help when they are either sick or giant. I wish they would listen in the beginning. |

Blue borns have been discussed a few times on here, if you do a search you should be able to find lots of info. Good luck! |
blue No....we've had Chiness Cresteds. They don't even resemble Yorkies. This is a Yorkie for sure. To the other post...thanks...I'll try and find the other posts about blue borns. I just hope I can find out enough to make our neighbor feel better about her little guy. |

Here is that post! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...highlight=blue I really feel it is from poor breeding.. But I really don't know for sure. |
That looks so much like our neighbors dog! Thanks I'd still love it if we had one born here. |
I have researched Blue Borns for several years. The pic that Villette posted is an example of blue born babies. Her skin was very dark where she should have had black hair. The tan hair was there and still is. Any coat that is tan/gold will grow but there is a defect in the genes that affest the black to blue coat. They also frequently have internal problems. Whatever was developing at the time the gene for coat was setting in can also be affected. This used to be called "fatal blue gene" and that is a clue about their health. The parents who produced this puppy should NOT be bred to each other again. The puppy/dog should be altered and then treated as if it were a Chinese Crested. The coat on the back is so thin that a very high SPF numbered sunscreen MUST be applied every time the dog is taken outside. The ears have even less blue and will burn very quickly!! Their skin can be extremely dry and fragile and the tiniest bite or scratch can cause major problems. Some will look sorta normal as babies but as soon as the puppy coat begins to shed and the adult one should grow in, it usually does not come in. It feels like a real high grade if steel wool..grows about an inch but either breaks off of just stops growing. Their ears can be hairless except for the tan fringe. The pic of Jillian that V. posted shows how sparse her coat is and the absence of blue hair on her body and ears. Now, chocs can have a lot of the same characteristics. I have a sweet little choc boy whp looks much like a teensy Schnauzer.his coat is thick but wiry. You will see them referred to as wire-haired but that is not an accepted term by most clubs. I would be happy to talk with anyone who needs info on blue borns and share what I have found. BTW, thanx Villette for posting Jillian's pic. It does help demonstrate the look. |
