My 5yr old Meiko won't eat
 
I am new to this and I hope someone can help me. I have a 5 year old yorkie, Meiko, and she has always had a great appetite we tease that she's like 'Mikey...she'll eat anything. But lately she won't eat and she'll even refuse treats. She's active and playful with my other little one (Lhasa, Chyna). I'm a little concerned.

Sorry to hear she is not eating. Could she have a tooth bothering her? If she continues to be off her normal feeding I would have the vet check her out. Hope she is just going through a phase.

Whenever there is a dramatic change like not eating you need to see a vet. Loss of appetite can be a symptom of many things, including extreme pain. Please see a vet, immediately, and note any other details. When Joey had a cornea ulceration, loss of appetite was his primary symptom.

By the way, what's lately? Has this been going on for more than a day? While some conditions do clear them selves up on their own, it's important to find out what caused it so that you can prevent it from happening again because next time it could be worse.

Try something different
 
Hi: Your yorkie might like the food it is eating. Also, try putting a little chicken baby food into the food.

She's saying she's refusing food and even treats this is not a food fussy problem. Please take this seriously.

It's been off and on for a few days now. She is still active and playful, she's not any different...she doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort. She'll even eat take a treat before anything else, so I've stopped giving treats and if this continues another day or so I will definitely take her to the vet.

When you said she wouldn't eat and even refuses treats, I thought she wasn't eating, at all. So apparently, she does eat some of her food, and treats? I'm not sure how long they can live without any food, is she drinking liquids? I'm not sure if it's an illness or a food fussy problem with the information you have given. Dogs are usually not fussy after 12 hours without food, if it's been 24 hours and she still seems fussy, I would take her to the vet. Patti suggested a tooth, and this is the age that many lose their teeth, do you think it could be this?

I agree w/ everything Nancy has posted in this thread. If she has eaten this little, she should be ravenous right now -- unless there is something extenuating, which means: a trip to the vet asap. :)

I would absolutely see your vet. Maddie recently had a bowel infection and change in diet was her first symptom.:confused:
