Best foods for yorkies?
 
Which foods are best for these little guys? thanks for your help. Mine is 10 mths old.

Mine is almost 4 months old. I use a combo mixture of Royal Cannin Puppy and Fromm, Duck and Sweet potato. The Yorkie Club I belong to says the Fromm is a very good food for them. I am a newbie so I am doing what they think. So far so good.

I feed raw, but as far as kibble goes - I like Orijen, Innova EVO Small Bites, Nature's Variety Instinct (not rabbit), Wellness CORE, Solid Gold Barking at The Moon.

I also feed raw but always have Innova Evo Chicken available for grazing between meals.

I've not heard of these brands of kibble, where do I find them? What am I looking for when researching kibble for my lil' baby? Good vs. Bad? Thanks!!:D

I LOVE your member name, LOL!! That really says it all, doesn't it? :D :D :D

Let's see, Wellness CORE you can find at Petsmart/Petco - so that one is easy. The rest of them, you usually find at a premium petfood store (like a petfood "boutique"), a feed store, or online.

Thanks for the info....I'm heading to PetSmart today to pick up some more stuff for what my friends call my "Imaginary Dog"..Ha ha!! I just want to be ready for her!!

Oh how fun, CONGRATULATIONS soon-to-be-Mommy!!! :D :D :D

Make sure you post some piccies after she arrives, would love to see her. Sounds like you are totally prepped for her arrival - that's just so great :). You probably already heard of Nutrical? I'll just mention it since you're heading to the store - yorkie puppies can be prone to hypoglycemia (you probably already know this), so it is very handy to have Nutrical available. If your baby ever gets shaky or weird, you give a pea-size dollop of Nutrical and it can really save a life/prevent the episode from going further. You'd find it in the vitamin/supplement section.

When Marcel came home to me (he was a tiny), I gave him Nutrical prophylactically before bedtime and right when he got up - during the 1st couple weeks I had him. He had never been prone to low blood sugar, but it's still helpful - esp. during times of stress. Nutrical is also wonderful just anytime your dog isn't feeling right. It is a paste that contains sugars as well as a boost of vitamins.

Geesh - probably more than you wanted to know! :p

I bought a bag of Taste of the Wild yesterday, and should have gotten the smallest bag they had. My poodle loves it, but Piper won't touch it. I guess he thinks if mama don't eat Bambi, he's not either. LOL What do you guys think of Chicken soup for a dog loves soul?

:D Thanks so much for all your input!! I'm totally writing it all down in my Yorkie "Good To know" notebook. ;)
The puppy I went to see today didn't work out...as much as I'd love to "rescue" her (living conditions were not the greatest...P-U!!) I have my doubts that she was a pure Yorkie. Oh well, I don't expect to find my baby with the first go around.

What is meant by "I feed raw"?

It means that an owner has chosen to feed their pups a diet consistenting of all or mostly all raw foods always including meat.

There are premade raw diets usually consistenting of meat and veggies that can be bought already done.

There is the BARF (bone and raw food) diet that includes meat and raw veggies, but this menu is put together by the owner. I think this also includes bone.

And there is PMR (prey model raw) which is meat (muscle, organ) and bone without veggies or any grains, etc.

Then there are variable homemade raw diets that don't meet any of the above 3.

I home cook of course because I know exactly what they are eating and know it's good for them. It's the healthest and safest way to feed your pet.
