Pet Insurance Hi All :) How many people have pet insurance, and if you do, which do you recommend getting? I have 3 dogs, 1 to get spayed w/in weeks... Should I quickly get pet insurance to help with that cost? Would I need 3 policies though, and wouldn't that be expensive? |
I got SPCA Pet Insurance for Gus. I got the Advantage plan, because it covered part (1/3) of the cost of neutering. When it's time to renew I'll consider switching to VPI. I may stay with SPCA though. Have to do the math. Make sure the plan you get covers neutering, & the cost/benefit works in your favor. |
I HIGHLY reccomend it for the first year! We just enrolled today at Petsmart for their insurance plan. It was $99 for the membership fee and it's $20/mo. All vet visits are covered, medicines, and we get 10% off purchases! If we DIDN'T take out the pet insurance, it would be $70/visit for Reese's shots (which she needs every 2-3 weeks for the first 6 mos.) and $300 for the spaying (at 5 mos). I'd pay probably $1,000 for the 1st year alone. Because of the insurance I pay $20/mo (About $250/year) and that's it! After the first year, since she only needs an annual booster, I'll probably just pay the $70 for the 1 visit and not worry about the insurance. But the first year is critical and you'll pay a small fortune if you dont have insurnace on them. :) Good luck! And I HIGHLY reccomend petsmart if you have one around you. :aimeeyork |

I use Petsmart Plan also and love it. |
Ask your local Petsmart about Wellness Hours. You can get vaccinations and heartworm test done without paying the office charge. So you save at least $30. The wellness hrs are a certain day and time, so you will have a short wait but it is worth it. |
