Seizure like symptoms We have a teacup Yorkie, 6 mo, he keeps having seizure type episodes. We took him to UC Davis in Ca., spent close to $5,000.00 on testing and still cant find anything wrong. HELP! we did a MRI, epilepsy has been ruled out, did tests for liver shunts, not hypoglycemia, when he has an episode it usually happends when he is excited, then he just falls over and paddles, and cant get up. When he can get up he keeps falling over, I pick him up and hold him tight, he holds his head to one side and moans like it really hurts. Ever heard of anything like this? ANYONE please help, |
If it happens when he gets excited then it's likely to be neurologic I had a dog once that had to be put down due to canine epilepsy and that sure sounds familiar I'd keep and eye out causes_&_treatment |
Siezure like symptoms Thank you Joey, I read the article, I wish this was the case we have tried Potassium Bromide, it did nothing, also we took a video and gave it to the Neurologists at UC Davis, Ca. they (5 of them) view it and ruled out epilepsy, the next thing they wanted us to try was a heart monitor. I'm running out of $$ so that might not be an option now. Although his episodes are like the tonic episodes discribed in the article are more like the ones he has. He is completely aware of his surroundings and when he is done, its like nothing ever happend. He has these 2-3 times daily, and some have lasted 45 mins. most are about 15mins. |
Have any of your vets suggested GME? We have a number of Yorkies here who are battling this dreadful disease. It can be very difficult to diagnose. gme |
i have friend who bought a chihuahua off the streets and it had diarrhea when she brought it home, so she took it to the vet and they put him on some kind of diarrhea med and gave him special food, the next day the dog had a seizure so she rushed it to a different vet that was closer to her house, they gave the dog a small dosage of vicoden and it stopped breathing, they were able to get him breathing again and gave the dog to her in a towel all drugged out, by that time i had reached the vets office and they were trying to rush us out the door with the dog like they didn't want it to die there, but as they were walking us out it did stop breathing and they took it back and it died, they said the dog was probably highly sensitive to meds becuz he was so tiny or that the first doctor might have prescribed too much med, personally i think the vicoden did him in, it was like the dog overdoesed from that, he was laying in the towel with his eyes rolling back when they handed him to us, i told my friend he looks majorly drugged |

Thanks Everyone :)Well thanks for all your replies. Marley, for some odd reason went to having 2-3 episodes a day to not having any in about a week! (knock on wood) we are hoping he is just growing out of it. We havn't changed anything. So I guess all the prayers worked! We will just keep a close eye on him, and hope for the best. Thanks again. test results Liver shunts were ruled out from a liver scan and ultrasound. We did an MRI, and a spinal tap. Bile acids were pre 1 post 19.the paperwork says mildly elevated, thats why we proceded with the tech scan for shunts. |

The Neurologist had suggested that he wear a heart monitor next, approx. $300-$500, then if anything is found out we are talking thousands more. I've already put $5000 in and Im just out of $$. He hasn't had an episode for over a week now, so i'm still praying. Thanks again for keeping us in your thoughts. |
