| My Yorkie has terrible bad breath! I have a six month old Yorkie whose breath smells like dead fish. She still has her baby teeth and so I know its not a tartar build up. She chews on bones and eats dry food so there shouldn't be any plaque either. I checked her mouth to see if she had any sores or abrasions that might be infected, but I don't see anything. Has anyone else had this problem? I am thinking about taking her to the vet, but didn't want to spend $100 if there is a simple solution. Thanks. |

| Food is probably getting trapped in between her baby and adult teeth. If her baby teeth don't fall out by about one year old (or when she is spayed if you are having that done), they will need to be pulled. All dogs really should have their teeth brushed and you may find that feeding only dry food isn't going to do much good...

| Bad breath My little diva had really bad breath about that age i could not stand it. When i took her in to get spayed the vet said she had some bad teeth and he pulled them out. Ever since she has not had bad breath. Do you think any teeth are rotten? |

| If she is getting her adult teeth now, that could be the problem. It's pretty common that their breath can get rather stinky then. She shouldn't need her teeth cleaned yet at such an early age, but make sure you are brushing them. |

| My little Ben is going through that stage now, and I picked up some Breath Tabs for dogs, you can get them at Petco or Petsmart. He will only eat them if I break them up in peices, but they only seem to work for alittle bit and then it gets pretty stinky again! lol

| I called my vet and confirmed it probably has to do with tooth loss. He suggested I get a "mouthwash" for dogs at Petco or PetSmart. He told me to have her rinse. (I just laughed at the thought of getting my dog to swish and gargle!) He said you can squirt it in their mouth and they will swallow it and the good smell will basically come from the stomach. I will give it a try along with brushing. |

| In connection with bad breath in Yorkies, this is our first Yorkie and he is a brilliant little fella. We have had Labs and a Foxy that's nearly 13, never known this before, we he will be 1 in April and we had him neutered and when that happened his teeth checked because of his breath, they removed a few of his puppy teeth, but the breath still is wow!! We give him mainly small dog, Royal Canin, dog food and of course a little of tined dog food mixed. I also have a cross Maltese/jack Russell and her breath is fine. I have already spent lots at the vet so hoping for some ideas. He is a feisty little chap and I can't se him agreeing to the teeth being brushed, oh have also been trying the dental chews. |

Dogs' breath isn't bad when things are healthy and normal, so there is definitely something going on in his mouth that shouldn't be happening. After you get it fixed w/ the vet, then you may want to consider some maintenance products like Healthy Mouth, Plaque Off, Wysong Denta Treat Powder, Leba III ($$$), brushing if you can. Also, good chews that challenge him will help scrape off some tartar and keep teeth cleaner. You may want to get some CET Chews from Amazon (too expensive at the vets), as they have some dental chemicals on them that are beneficial.
