| leaving food uneaten HI, Kirby is a tad over 3 pounds and is one and a half years old. About two weeks ago he began eating less. He is still active as ususal. Some days he does eat it all, but he does not gobble it up as quickly as often when he eats. I think it is time to stop waiting for it to pass , and to call the vet. Anyone been thru this. He has been having normal BMs and drinking allhis water . thank you

YT 500 Club Member | If this is completely unusual, of course call your vet. However, ours never cobbles, and she may go for a day without eating all of her breakfast. We feed her twice a day. But, just now I gave her extra food. The cat ate part of her dinner, and she was still hungry. Her appetite seems to fluctuate greatly.

| I just started a thread today about how much to feed. Hot Rod is 14 mos and he had his annual yesterday. I've been feeding both of them 1/2 cup- 1/4 cup each meal and they've never really finished it. The vet suggested trying 1/3 cup total for the day for each. Hot Rod is 3.7 lbs and Maggie (last vet check) was 3 lbs. He's pretty much a picky eater. He is by no means underweight. Vet said he look good for his size. She said that dogs will regulate themselves when they get full. Is free feeding an option? I don't because they don't eat it anyway.

| thank you for your responses. I am glad to hear this could be normal....and he does seem completely fine otherwise. As for free feeding I dont feel comfortable with that. However, He was Very ill in March/April and we had to feed him several times a day during recovery period....SO ,I guess if things got bad I am willing to do what ever it takes.
