Help Bland diet not working Teddy is suppose to be on a bland diet and he won't eat rice, chicken, tuna or turkey! He HATES the prescription wet diet they sell he won't eat it either. all he wants is his pedigree food! A woman at the clinic suggested even babyfood because it's high in protein but I'm not sure I can get him to eat that either but I haven't tried, what is something my dog might eat that fits in the bland diet. |
I use I fry up some hamburger and rice. This seems to work for my dogs. But I see that yours will not eat rice. I know a lady that use to feed butter noodles with just a hint of butter. You could try that. She boiled small shell noodles and feed those. Good luck with the bland diet |
Sorry to hear Teddy is not feeling well.....I had to mix the rice and chicken with chicken baby food for mine to eat it.... Pedigree is not a good food to feed him....here's a link for better quality foods to try....Pedigree was recently involved in a recall also....Good luck with your Teddy.... I found Pedigree on the analysis site and it is a VERY bad food..... He ate up the spagetti noodles(i cut them really small) and some hamburger) So i guess i found his liking in bland food. i didn't add anything to the hamburger an donly a tiny bit of butter to the noodles |
I would bake some whitefish - many dogs LOVE fish and it truly is the most hypoallergenic protein they can eat; so, try cod, sole, pollock, trout, whiting - or whatever. Give with mashed potatoes or something. :) |
Here is the homemade equivalent to the low protein Hill's Prescription Diet. I am working towards home cooking and gathering a lot of information and the home-cooked equivalents to the prescription diets was in the info..... 1/4 lb. ground beef (regular not low fat) weigh after cooking 2 cups cooked white rice (without salt) 3 slices white bread 1 egg Mix ingredients well, you can add a bit of water if it is too dry. For a 5 lb. yorkie feed 1/4 lb. a day. You will need to give a doggie vitamin daily for the micro nutrients. |
My Tootsie and Samantha don't like white rice but now I use brown rice (2cups2 cups water 2 1/2 cups chicken or beef broth (low sodium) 1 pd. ground turkey breast. at end I add 1cup mashed sweet potatoes. My vet gave me this recipe. Hope this helps too! Hugs and best wishes!:animal-pa |
