| Help!! What should I do? Okay Gracie is getting spayed on Thursday (AHHH!!) I am so scared, but my question is....My vet has 3 different options for the care given to your dog...It is Level 1 (highest) with Pre anesthetic blood testing, ECG and pulse oximetry monitoring during surgery, Post operative pain injection, and iv cathetar and fluids Level 2 is the same as level one but without iv and catheter fluids and Level 3 is just the anesthesia and procedure My big problem is money...it is and extra 94.50 for level 1 an extra 66 for level 2 these are on top of the 92.50 for the spaying and level 3 is no extra charge...I don't want to not give her what she needs but I can't afford to much...so what is your guys opinion and what did you do.... I can pay for post operative pain injection seperatly for 20.00 and i will for sure get that but i don't know about the rest of the stuff???

| I would talk to your vet and address your concerns. i would ask if you could have some sort of payment plan, maybe ask if you can pay it off in 3 installments??? Good Luck. |

| Wow I thought IV and fluids would be standard in any surgery! I think you should have the pre-blood work up so I guess I would opt for #1. I am not so sure I would be happy with offering 3 options like this though. Maybe the pre blood work being a seperate cost but the rest? |

| Schatzie was spayed a few weeks ago and I opted for the highest care and over and beyond that to give her by my vet. Id rather go without something for myself then to budget her care. Discussing your concerns with your vet might be helpful. Maybe they allow payment plans?

| As this is your pup's first surgery I would opt for the highest level of care. I am however appalled that your vet considers IV fluids and pain medication something over and above the normal surgical procedure. I'd be inclined to suggest someone remove his family jewels without the benefit of pain medication afterwards. Perhaps he'd view things differently. |

| Oh I forgot to mention that I would also be looking for another vet. One that put's the welfare of the animal before the almighty dollar. |

| Try this I had my pups done at the local humane society and was very pleased with the results. They had iv's and the pain med and the blood work up the day before, total cost for both $160. They healed wonderfully and were up and around within a day. Also, Orinskye had her boy done at the same one that I did and she also was pleased. Unless your pup is very small, I would look into other vets as that seems very high even for here in SoCal. |

| I'm afraid I agree with the others on the Level 1 - she's going to have to not have anything to eat or drink for XX number of hours (I think it's 12) before the surgery, and to not rehydrate when they are doing surgery and after could really be a bad thing. BUT - you don't have to get it done tomorrow - I'd check with others in your town/area and see about another vet. That isn't expensive for here in South Texas small towns, but I know I pay about double what my friends and family do in the larger cities. sabrinasmom |
