| Mocha's not eating & drinking as usual Hey all, I changed to Orijen puppy about a week ago, and so far it has been great - until 2 days ago. She just completely stopped eating on her own - I have to take her bowl to her and put the kibble on the floor, then she'll eat. Even then it's not to her usual amount. I notice she also hasn't been drinking much, when usually she's almost like a small camel, and eats like a vacuum cleaner. I do moisten her food with water, but it's never bothered her before. Why now? The only change I could think of, I started bringing my dogs to walk a few blocks in the afternoon (4/5PM). I didn't do that before because she hasn't finished her shots, and fleas & diseases are very common in this part of the world. I wonder if she's exhausted by the walks? I also noticed when the 1st day, after coming back from the walk she goes straight to her water, but not the last 2 days. In fact, I'm surprised she pees at all, she simply hasn't been drinking much water! It's driving me mad. My shihtzu Lulu seems to thrive on her walks and the Orijen. She used to be really picky but now she'll even eat without prompt. Help! What could be causing Mocha's change of eating habits??? Last edited by Babz; 09-18-2008 at 09:49 PM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm, since she is a puppy who has pretty much stopped eating and drinking - has been in public areas, and is not up to date on shots - I'd get her to the vet ASAP. I really would.

But good news - she ate dinner just now, dry kibble without water. Could it be she's just bored of watered food? She's also drinking water as usual again. First she's not eating, now she is. The drinking is fine too. What on earth is happening???

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, I'm sorry ! I misunderstood - I thought she hadn't had all her shots. Hmmm, well how's the heat there? I wonder if she's getting a mild heat stroke or something? I would kind of think she'd vomit though, but maybe not. If she is getting too hot, I'm not surprised if she stops drinking though - as dogs will do that.

| I may have not been very clear in my 1st post it's my mistake, Wylie's Mom. The heat.. well I live in a tropical country, so yeah it's pretty darned hot. But my dogs are indoors 99% of the time, and my house is pretty cool. Walks is an exercise in timing - I have to go when the sun's low enough so the heat doesn't scorch us, but not low enough that it's really dark when we get back. I live in a real estate, but my country isn't very safe. Thing is I also just changed Mocha's drinking habits from a feeder to a bowl. The feeder causes her to honk all the time. Goodness, I just don't know. Let's see tomorrow if she's acting as usual. You know, small camel and a vacuum cleaner. She's driving me out of my mind |

Dogs will stop drinking if they get too hot??? Seriously??? But the very 1st day we go on walks, when we got back she went straight to her feeder. Next day it was changed to bowl, and that's when it started if I remember correctly. The less drinking thing.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Sometimes mine will all eat like they are starving first thing in the morning...other times one or more won't eat until later. I will say if we are outside when it's hot...they are less likely to come inside and eat.

I'm not free feeding Mocha, so it's real mindboggling if she doesn't eat at her alloted time. Gosh I just don't know. Is it just part of her growing older, eating less food.. Is it because I;m feeding her better food and it's taking some time for her body to notice that she doesn't have to eat as much as usual.. *head- desk*
