| ![]() We got a new Yorkie last Sunday. She came home with a little cough and weighed 1lb. 6oz. when she came home. She ate dry food ok initially. On Tuesday, she stopped eating and became hypoglycemic. We took her to the vet and were given a syringe and some fattening wet food. Around the same time her cough got worse and we put her on antibiotics. The vet also found that she had Giardia and put her on antibiotics for that as well. We've now been feeding her every 3-4 hrs (typically through a syringe because she won't eat on her own) We've tried baby food, wet food, dry food, turkey etc. We also feed her karo syrup once a day and always have sugar water available. She really likes some of it initially then has no interest in it next time we try. After 5 days on antibiotics they didn't appear to be working and she's always very tired. She does play and has energy at certain times but when she's done she heads back to bed and isn't interested in much attention. She's put on a few ounces and is now on a new antibiotic. Haven't had a chance yet to see if it's working. We're worried about her lethargy and disinterest in food. I've read some threads and it seems as though the pickiness is just a breed thing ![]() |

| ![]() She is tired because her sugar gets down,Go to the petstore and get her some nutri cal gel they love that.Give it to her 3xdaily.Also go get some armour potted meat and feed her. My pups like that alot better than baby food, cook some turkey ground meat with a little water. Get her a puppy kong put in peanut butter in the middle, lots of protein and they love it. How old is she? ![]() |

| ![]() I wouldn't give her sugar water unless the vet specifically advised it. Too much sugar without any essential fats will cause an insulin response and she'll crash more often. Use Nutri-Cal instead of Karo and give her a pea sized dose about fifteen to twenty minutes before offering her food. She should perk up when it kicks in and be more willing to eat. Offer her goats milk to drink, it's a little bit sweet and has lots of nutrition. Be sure to monitor how often she urinates and watch for pink color in the gums. If she doesn't urinate regularly and her gums turn grey she is dehydrated. The antibiotics alone are enough to make her feel bad, but when you add the infection and the hypoglycemia she is going to feel really yucky. Just be patient with her and watch her closely, the first day she starts to improve and play it will all be worth it. Always remember to give her some yogurt with active cultures during and after antibiotics, this will help repopulate her digestive system with beneficial bacteria. Just keeping her eating and drinking is the major part of the battle. You'll be so proud when she begins to feel better and starts to play. Good Luck.

| ![]() She's 12 weeks old. The vet suggested the sugar water and the karo syrup but since we've already tried them, I'd rather try your recommendations and see how she does. She had some more spunk last night so hopefully we're heading in the right direction. ![]() |

| ![]() Yorkies in general are pretty picky dogs. We have had two Yorkies and they both went through phases in which they liked certain foods and disliked others and then switched up on us. It can be frustrating, but I've found that you just have to be creative and keep food interesting. Also, my dog has routinely refused traditional dog food. I did the Nature's Variety raw diet for years and he did excellent on that. But then he contracted a parasite or some intestinal infection, and the vet recommended that I take him off the raw diet. Currently, I cook meat, veggies, and other dog-approved foods and keep things mixed up so that he doesn't get bored. I have also found with my dog that he is more likely to eat if I give him small portions throughout the day. Finally, when my dog gets hungry, he seems to get a tummy ache that then results in him being nauseous and not wanting to eat. It becomes a vicious cycle; he needs to eat to get rid of the nausea, but doesn't want to eat because he's nauseous. Yorkies are definitely a challenge when it comes to food. ![]()

| ![]() Her energy level is increasing as the days go by- yay! The new antibiotic appears to be working better than the Clavamox she was on. She's eating certain things when she feels like it, and we're still syringe feeding hear the rest. So picky ![]() |
