| Super high protein foods... over 35% I've had a lot of time on my hands today and I viewed every single catergory 1-6 stars at dogfoodanalysis.com I was just curious...it says the high proteins are too much for puppies...but isn't 40% or more just plain too high for yorkies period because of their sensitive stomachs?

| I'm not an expert on this, but anecdotally I've been told it's not good to give puppies high protein because they will grow TOO quickly, especially large breed puppies. I've also been told that high-protein KIBBLE is hard on their kidneys and livers and other organs because it has no water content, but that canned or fresh meat isn't a problem. I don't think it's a stomach issue unless they aren't used to having high protein but you should always switch and introduce new foods slowly anyway to avoid that problem. If you are looking for grain-free but not high protein try Taste of the Wild. Otherwise there are a bunch of grain free or 95% grain free canned foods out there that are much easier for them to process. Hope that helps! We've tried most of the foods out there and sadly i don't notice much of a difference from premium kibble to premium kibble. They are all pretty good unless you dog has specific allergies. I can't say that Evo (grain free) is so much better than regular Innova (with rice, I believe) but both are a huge step up from grocery store brands like Purina, Iams, etc.

I don't think yorkies have sensitive stomachs, in comparison to any other breed. I think their tummies are just tummies. And like any dogs, there may be some dogs who have A sensitive tummy, but it's based on the dog - not the breed, in my opinion. Dogs are carnivores, so higher protein is more species appropriate.

| Well, that definitely makes more sense! We're going to transition over to Wellness for puppies. I just got it today. I don't know if any of you have seen my other threads from today, but we're switching again because Chewie seems to have devloped the "itchies" after switching to Royal Canin, which until today, I noticed isn't that much better than the Hills SD he was eating before (which he had no reaction to). Well, it is, but not so much....He's 6mo old right now and I figured as long as he reacts well to the Wellness brand, we'll stick with it and then once he turns 8-9mo. we can change over to Wellness Core since it's grainless (which seems to be an admirable quality in dog food) and has a nice protein value. If I had my choice, I'd home cook for him, but that's just not in the cards right now. Is that what I should do?

| Remember that it may take a few weeks to see a difference in the itching once you switch over to a better food. Good luck!
