Should I continue feeding Puppy food? Sasha is a little over 5 months and a solid 5 pounds. I just decided to switch her from Nutro Ultra to Wellness. I was able to get some free samples of Wellness Super 5 Mix Just for puppies and she seems to like it. But how long should she remain on puppy food? If I buy a 5 lb bag it's going to last months! Will I need to switch her over to adult food during that time? If so, should I just go ahead and buy adult food? I noticed Wellness now has an adult formula for small breeds so if I need to switch to adult food I think I'll try that out. By the way I'm speaking of dry food only. Thanks in advance! :aimeeyork |
You could probably switch her over around 7-8 mths or so - or, buy an all life stage food and start that now. She is so close to being an adult though, and there is honestly not a *huge* difference btwn puppy/adult foods - so you could switch over now and be fine. :) |
7-8 months is a good time to switch normally but if you compare the Wellness Puppy to the Small Breed Adult (dark red bag) the ratios are very very close to each other. I can't remember the exact difference but I believe the puppy has 2% more fat and a little bit more fiber. So either one is not really going to matter, I would switch to the small breed adult. Now if you are talking about switching to the Super 5 (green or purple) bags I would stay on the puppy formula because the ratios drop dramatically |
True. I was reading the ingredients of the puppy and adult food and it was basically the same just the percentages were higher. I guess it's better for an adult to still be fed puppy vs a puppy being being fed adult. Thanks for the reply! |

This is a purple bag but it's new. Is this the one you were referring to? Edit - Never mind I see which one you were referring to. It's a truer purple, lol. Thanks again! |
