I agree!!!!! We just got back from the vet Friday. We gave Leah a rawhide stick the 1st of last week and another one on Wednesday. When she got up Friday morning she had thrown up twice in her crate, threw up 4 more times while my daughter was getting ready for work and 4 more times when she got to work. I took her to the vet, worried and they said it was probably the bones....little ones can't handle these kinds them. She said to give her a "denta bone" if she needed to chew on anything. Anyway, they gave her some medicine to calm her stomach and even though she threw up a couple of times after we gave her the med's it definetly helped. She's back to her old self now...full of energy! I'm just grateful that it was not worse. The vet says, "No more rawhide....EVER"! |
Thanks for your responses! As far as alternatives, I copied this from the article. There are plenty! My lil' girl LOVES Bully sticks that come in all shapes and sizes - and are completely digestable! Safe, Healthy Alternatives to Rawhide If you are looking for a healthy chew for Fido, there are plenty. Options include organic raw bones (supervise while chewing), bully sticks, muscle chews and the popular classic Kong toys, can be filled with peanut butter or another healthy satisfying treat to engage a dog’s chewing instincts. At the original link, Rawhide - Danger in Disguise | CupOFdog | Dog Site for Dog People The alternatives are each linked to a website that sells those chew sticks so you can get a visual! |
yeppers on the rawhide! thankfully we asked our vet before buying those kind of chews. he doesn't even give them to his large dogs. doesn't like them @ all. i don't remember about bully sticks, but he gives his dogs & recommends nylabones. cali loves her nylabone. . . her kong too! sorry to hear of some of your baby's boo boos! :( |
Thanks for the reminder!! It's good to remind all the old timers and let the newbies know that they are a "no-no"!! |
