| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It always scares me when people talk about tube feeding, it's so easy for it to get into their lungs and develop pneumonia. She's a cutie, that for sure, good luck with her, and welcome to YorkieTalk!

I was really hoping that she would reach at least 3 lbs but it just wasn't meant to be. You may need to use the syringe to feed her. I was having to feed Lily a couple of cc's several times a day just to keep her going. Your little one is the spitting image of Lily at that age. Please have your vet check her over for possible hydrocephalus, Liver Shunt, or MVD/HMD. There is usually a reason why they are this tiny. Lily's is due to both hydrocephalus and MVD/HMD (liver disease). Have your vet do a bile acid test as soon as she is big enough and ask him to check for a large open font. A small one is okay but a large one is likely trouble. She is just adorable! Please continue to update us on how she is doing!!!

| If she stops eating the Merrick's, I would definitely try the Gerber's Baby Chicken. I had to syringe feed Lola for a week or so, but then she graduated to eating it off the end of my finger rather quickly. She did this for months, but would eat a whole jar! I would barely heat it in the microwave to take the chill off, and she started putting on weight quickly. The vet also gave me some liquid vitamins to add that were also supposed to stimulate her appetite. I had her on an every 4 hour feeding schedule until she was 2 pounds...I was just too worried about her! She is still very small, very picky and still worries her mom to death! Good luck - Paris is a precious baby! |
