VitaLife Chicken Chips - Safe? Made in China
 

Has anyone heard anything about this treat? I just bought it tonight from Petsmart, and opened it, fed Darwin a couple, and noticed the bag said "Made in China"

Just makes me a bit worried...he seemed to like it enough, but I do not want to feed it to him if it's poor quality, or has ever been recalled in the past...

China's products have had such poor quality contol, I hesitate to buy anything that says "made in china" especially dog items. We will see more and more products produced by them, but things for dogs and children as well as products intended for consumption, I will be avoiding for a few years. Most of them are probably safe, but I have no confidence that the product I'm buying has been tested.

It really isn't safe to feed any food from China IMO.

I won't feed any treats to my dogs that are products of China. I was so disapointed when I saw all these great new treats at Petsmart said "product of china" on them :( Also, are these the round ones?? One member posted about the round chicken jerky that caused her dog to choke. The dog swallowed the little round piece whole and it lodged in their throat.

Yep - that's the one. the little round chip ones. I threw the bag in the garbage. He ate 2 of them yesterday. I also threw away the beggin strips b/c I read those are bad also. Geez - what's safe anymore!! I have no idea!

Raw veggies (bell pepper, carrot, lettuce)
Cooked veggies (bell pepper, carrot, squash, celery)
Grains/carbs if you feed them (brown rice, peeled and cooked sweet and regular potato, pasta)
Meat (bonless skinless chicken breast with no seasoning or fat)
Dairy if not lactose intolerant (cottage cheese...low fat, low sodium if possible, plain yogurt...the more active cultures the better)

My kids LOVED the duck/chicken jerky strips but they are both made in China and I have made a personal decision not to buy any animal products for pets made in China. JMO

DARN! I can't believe that I just bought them yesterday!! :eek: Not the round ones, the irregular-shaped ones. That's what I get for not putting on my glasses and reading while I'm shopping!! Of course, they loved them. I was a little nervous when I opened the pack...they were kind of hard, so I made sure I broke them up real small. I just gave them a couple pieces a few minutes ago and decided to look them up on here. Oh well...$9.99 down the drain...but at least my girls are okay.

I feed my boys Smokehouse Chicken Breast Tenders Treats for Dogs - they are 100% natural hand cuts of quality roasted chicken. It's a dried non-greasy chicken strip. The boys love them they sit at the pantry door and wait for them because they know when they get them. And they don't make a mess or stink.

Beware of the chicken chips
 

Well I stumbled upon this forum from some research. I have never posted here. In fact I do not own a Yorkie, I do have a Pit / German short hair mix and smaller mix terrier breed. Both are saved dogs. On a trip to PetsMart yesterday to get our smaller dog (Ozzy) nails trimmed we picked up some dog treats on our way out the door. They happen to be the Vita life chicken chips. (the round ones.) We picked them up because the only ingredient was "chicken" However I did not notice they were "Made in China" If I had seen that I would not have purchased them. I really stray away from the made in china items as much as possible. We fed one to each of our dogs. In about a hour our smaller dog Ozzy started to vomit, and did not want any food. Though it was kinda funny so I looked at the bag and then noticed the dredded Made in China. It has been 24 hours now and he is still not feeling well. Still has Diarrea and some vomitting. If he does not get better by tomorrow we will take hime to the vet. I am not certin that the Chicken chips are responsible for this but it is the only thing that has changed in his diet recently. Just wanted to say beware of them and all "Made in China" Items.

Thanks for this information, the words are often printed very small, and I noticed so many of Target's dog products now saying this. I hope Ozzy is doing better, a healthy dog might recover fairly fast, and so these don't get reported, but a weak dog or a dog with a comprised immune system might have more difficulty.

Pet food produce in China
 

I'm a normal stuff sever in a pet food products company in Tianjin China.
We produce some Janpanese brands and the goods must be irradiated by gammaray before we export.
There is an OEM factory produce the VITALIFE brand products and sometimes we lad the containers togather in the same place here our good irradiated.
We also purchase some semi-manufactured goods from them and then finish the packing ourself as the CHICKEN WITH SWEET POTATO.
Here I can tell everybody that the materialsof the pet food are GOOD.
BUT,plz notice that the safty of the goods are according to the QC of the factory and the leaders.
For example,as the irradiate process,different dose of the inspection are under the factory's require,most pet goods are irradiated from 8 to 10 kGy and also it costs different.

I haven't visited their factory so I can't tell you how they work and how they grantee the safty of the products.

Most pet food export to Japan from China are stricter that to U.S on the quality as I know.


I stay in the workship everyday to learn the knowledges of the manufactures of the goods and I'm willing to explain the questions to you.

But please stop complaing the quality of the goods from our country,we make everyting under the client's specifications and standards or they would not purchase our products.

I don't mean to complain about the quality, and probably the overall quality is excellent. However, a few examples have scared many of us. For example, the usage of leaded paint in the Mattel toys, sure it was Mattel's fault for not being specific about the type of paint used, but it is such common knowledge here not to use leaded paint on practically everything, let alone children's toys. I imagine in several years some of these differences will be ironed out, and I've purchased many products that were made in China, but when it comes to the safety of our children and pets, you just want to be so careful. I'm not saying that it's China's fault there have been problems, I place the responsibility on the client that hires you, but that is no comfort, if your child or pet get sick. Unfortunately, all it takes are a couple of bad things happening before people get leery, but, I am sure this is something your country will overcome.
