| My lola has horrible gases Ever since I got her spayed last week she has been having a lot of gases. I can hear them in her stomach when she is sitting with me and she has been burping a lot. Do you think this is all due to the surgery? Is there anything I can do? I have an appointment with the vet on Monday but wanted to know if anyone else has had the same experience

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry I don't recall that happening to Cali when I had her spayed but I think people can have problems like that from surgery/anesthesia so I'm sure dogs can too. Hopefully someone will respond who has had this problem.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Did you change her food or anything? If not, I'd definitely mention this to the vet as it could be due to a number of things - irritating the digestive system at the surgical site somehow and/or irritating the esophagus from intubation, maybe causing some reflux/or swallowing air...? Also though, hormones can cause gas - so with her going through alot of hormonal adjustments, it could be this as well.

| Oh don't ever feel guilty about having her spayed. It's the right thing to do. There are so many unwanted dogs in this world. And being spayed can actually really improve a dog's health in the long run.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, hon - don't beat yourself up - you did the right thing!! It'll be okay. Hormones are really major chemicals - so you never know what kind of adjustments the body goes through and how it might react. She'll be okay. Dogs can have Pepto - so if you have some, you could give 1/2 tsp. to her and see if it gives relief; then another 1/2 tsp. in an hour.
