help! ive had my riley for 2 days now and he wont eat! i'm getting worried because he's only 8 weeks old. could it be because he's in a new environment? he's drinking water and i'm feeing him nutrical for puppies but i'd really like to see him eat some of his wet or his dry food :( i'm giving him the same food the breeder was feeding him before i got him. any suggestions?! |
I'm so sorry hon, if he's getting some nutrical, I wouldn't worry too much yet. He is probably getting adjusted to the new environment. 8 weeks old is really too early to be away from his mom and litter mates - there is a lot of maturity that happens for a pup if they stay at least another 2-4 weeks. You could try to give him a bit of plain yogurt or cottage cheese, maybe even some on his food Welcome to YT! |
Nutri-Cal alone won't sustain him for long. Try hand feeding him something to get his gut going. If you have some ham or chicken that would be good. Very few dogs can resist meat. I wouldn't give him too much as it could cause stomach upset but it may stimulate him to eat. You could try mixing some canned food in with his dry but, again, not too much. It is richer than dry and could cause diarrhea. It's probably just his new environment but he doesn't need to go too long without eating. Good luck!! :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
someone told me to try chicken baby food.. has anyone else tried this? i'm going to try adding some warm water to his dry food to make it easier for him to eat then mixing some of the wet food into it too. i also want to try putting karo syrup in his water.. but since i'm giving hum nutrical would that be too much? aah i just want him to eat lol  |
I have used lamb and chicken baby food to get a puppy to eat and they did eat it. I would try warming it a bit and if he eats that, gradually mix a little of his dog food in it. When Cali wouldn't eat when I got her at 9 weeks I fianlly got her to eat Cesars dog food, which is a crap food but I needed her to eat, I gradually got her to eat better food, I would be careful giving ham as it is hard on their tummies. |
Scooter wouldn't eat when I first brought him home either. His breeder said to get substance into him ASAP! She suggested meaty baby food also, but at first Scooter wouldn't even eat that! I had to syringe feed him baby food! Eventually he started eating it on his own, but when I tried to mix dry into the baby food he would just lick the baby food off and spit the kibbles back out. When we went to the vet she sent me home with canned A/D food and he loves it, so I just had to gradually mix dry into that to get him on a regular diet again. He still gets the A/D mixed with his dry in the morning, but for the rest of the day he gets just dry and he's doing much better! So I'd say go for baby food and slowly mix dry into it, and if you can't get him to eat the dry also ask your vet! |
When I first got Sophie, she wouldn't eat either. The breeder told me to give her chicken sticks from the baby food aisle in the supermarket. She loved it! Good luck with your new fur baby. You're just going to adore having a yorkie!:aimeeyork |

I got her when she was going on 9 weeks. I did not know that it is better to get a Yorkie pup at least 12 weeks old. They need to socialize with their littermates. However, my Suzi is doing just fine, and has grown twice as big as she was:D Have you taken your little one to the vet yet? I would also get the pup dewormed too. :aimeeyork Welcome to YT :yorkietal I forgot to say that :D |

I would hold off on the grooming a little while or ask your vet what they advise. |
