Eukanuba Puppy Weaning Diet? :confused:Is this necessary? My puppy is 9 weeks old. hasn't been eating much lately since he has been here at his new home. Thought maybe it was just due to stress of a new environment, but he's very playful. What do you think. Also, what are your opinions of the Eukanuba brand Dog food for puppy small breed or the Yorkshire Terrier blend. Thanks |

Having said that, when I got my dog at 10 weeks old, he came to me eating Eukanuba as well, which I weaned him off of slowly. I fed him Innova puppy food just until last month when he turned one. Innova in my opinion is a very good food and Milo loved it. I would recommend it. But to switch them from one food to another, you have to do it gradually. I would say give him a quarter measurement of the new food and three quarters of the old food for at least a week and then do half and half for maybe another week and then give him 100% of the new food if he doesn't show any signs of illness or allergies. Also, don't listen to your vet's recommendations on crappy foods like Hills Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba, etc... they're garbage! Here's a good site that rates different foods and talks about the ingredients. Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost. Here is a review on Eukanuba small breed puppy formula: Dog Food Reviews - Eukanuba Puppy Small Breed Formula - Powered by ReviewPost and Eukanuba Yorkshire Terrier: Dog Food Reviews - Eukanuba Yorkshire Terrier - Powered by ReviewPost Good luck to you and your new pup  |
There's always room for treats! Quote:
Milo loves carrots, strawberries, raspberries, apples, peaches, sweet peppers, etc... Just makes sure not to give him cores, seeds and green parts of the fruits/vegetables because sometimes they can be toxic. I also give him Freeze dried liver and chicken for treats, because they only have one ingredient and I know what it is. You can also look up poisonous foods for dogs, just to make sure what he can't eat. Hope this helps! |

As for Eukanuba, it's not the worst, and not by far the best. There are many that swear by it and many who don't like the ingredients or the company itself--lots of controversy surrounding Iams. Ultimately, you have to determine what is best for YOUR dog--it may not be what another person found success with. (High end, superior rated foods are not always a good fit for individual dogs--too bad it is not as simple as looking at a ratings list and picking one at random.) Take your time and research what food you think will be a good fit for your little one and supplement as needed. One research site often suggested here -- dogfoodanalysis.com -- is a good place to start and has some good informtion, it is only the opinion of the site editors, not long term research. Don't let your search start and end there. An excellent site, IMO to include in your research is Dog Food Review Ratings It will take link you to several sites that examine commerical foods, raw diets and home cooking. Also, there is a sticky at the top of this section w/ links to different manufacturers that will send you samples and coupons to try. Switch your little one gradually...a sudden change often causes severe digestive upset, among other things. You will know when you have found a good fit for him by the results you see. Good luck and congrats on your new addition. |
